Field Evaluation of Edgeline Widths
Author:

Pages : 64
Book Description
This report documents an evaluation of the effectiveness in terms of safety and cost of 8-in (20 cm) wide edgelines on two-lane rural roads compared to 4-in (10 cm) wide edgelines. In order to assess the incremental benefits attributable to the wider lines, a before-versus -after experimental design with a control group was developed. With the assistance of State highway departments in Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, and Texas, over 2,000 miles (3200 km) of two-lane rural roads were restriped with either 8-in (20 cm) edgelines or 4-in (10 cm) wide edgelines.
