El mercado laboral exige, hoy más que nunca, profesionales capaces de aprender y de adaptarse a entornos cambiantes. En este sentido, el conocido como Proceso de Bolonia de las universidades europeas ha tratado de poner el énfasis en una enseñanza dirigida al aprendizaje de competencias por parte de los estudiantes, no solo de las cognitivas (conocimientos) sino también de las no cognitivas (destrezas y actitudes). En este nuevo modelo educativo, el aprendizaje se entiende como un proceso constructivo y no meramente receptivo, por lo que las metodologías docentes centradas en las lecciones magistrales del profesor deben ser complementadas con otras más activas que permitan un aprendizaje basado en la experiencia (learning by doing o aprender haciendo). Además, el aprendizaje individualista debe completarse con el aprendizaje colaborativo, es decir, el producido a través del trabajo en equipo. Esta necesidad de utilizar nuevos métodos didácticos nos ha llevado a realizar el presente libro de casos prácticos y recursos didácticos para la docencia en el ámbito de la Dirección de Operaciones y de la Producción. Estas actividades sirven de actualización y complemento al libroManual de Dirección de Operaciones, publicado por esta misma editorial en el año 2004. La obra, estructurada en 13 Capítulos, propone cuatro tipos de actividades -problemas, lecturas, experiencias empresariales y recursos multimedia-, que ayudarán al estudiante a reforzar los conceptos teóricos de la Dirección de Operaciones y a desarrollar otras competencias clave para su formación profesional. Algunas de estas actividades se han diseñado para ser trabajadas individualmente, mientras que otras se han elaborado para ser llevadas a cabo en equipo. Además, el docente puede decidir si usarlas dentro del aula o como tareas no presenciales. Algunos textos, vídeos y recursos propuestos para estas actividades se encuentran disponibles en la web de apoyo a este texto, en http://merkado.unex.es/recursosDO, a la que se puede acceder a través de los códigos QR oportunamente incluidos en el libro. Por su parte, los contenidos que cubren los Capítulos son los siguientes: planificación estratégica de operaciones, diseño y desarrollo de nuevos productos, selección y diseño del proceso y la tecnología, planificación a largo plazo de la capacidad y localización de instalaciones, la decisión de distribución física de instalaciones, el factor humano en la dirección de operaciones, gestión de la calidad, planificación de la capacidad a medio y corto plazo, gestión de inventarios, sistemas justo a tiempo, gestión de la cadena de suministro, planificación y control de proyectos, y gestión del mantenimiento.
