"El Trabajo Social promueve el cambio social en base a los derechos humanos y la justicia social. Ante las situaciones de desigualdad y exclusión que vive una parte de la población, desde el Trabajo Social se está trabajando para la transformación social. Para ello, es necesario disponer de herramientas que nos permitan alcanzar este objetivo. Ante esta necesidad, la investigación con impacto social se dibuja como una vía para detectar las actuaciones que mayores pasos dan para alcanzar los objetivos marcados. Teniendo en cuenta este contexto, la tesis doctoral presenta tres artículos científicos que dan respuesta al objetivo de avanzar en el impacto social de la investigación científica en Trabajo Social. Con este fin, se presentan, por un lado, a partir de un análisis bibliográfico, los factores que la comunidad científica internacional ha identificado que intervienen en el éxito educativo de los estudiantes con escolaridad formal limitada o interrumpida. Conocer estos factores nos posibilita realizar acciones que logran los objetivos marcados, como son las Actuaciones de Éxito. Por otro lado, a partir de un estudio de caso elaborado con la Metodología Comunicativa y técnicas de investigación cualitativas, se presenta una investigación en la que se muestra cómo la identificación y análisis de actuaciones eficaces puede realizarse mejor con la incorporación de las voces de las comunidades, tal como ahora ya prescribe Horizon Europe. Esto posibilita ofrecer soluciones para superar las situaciones de pobreza y exclusión que vive una parte de la población. Finalmente, ante la importancia de realizar investigaciones científicas con impacto social, se analiza el encaje de la Metodología Comunicativa y el Trabajo Social. Se destaca la concordancia de esta metodología con los principios y objetivos del Trabajo Social y las implicaciones que puede tener su uso. La investigación realizada presenta vías para continuar avanzando en la investigación con impacto social en Trabajo Social que contribuya a alcanzar los objetivos de la profesión y disciplina." -- TDX.

A region known for its volatility, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) has suffered severe economic and social setbacks from crises—including the COVID-19 pandemic. These crises have taken their toll on careers, wage growth, and productivity. Employment in Crisis: The Path to Better Jobs in a Post-COVID-19 Latin America provides new evidence on the effects of crises on the region’s workers and firms and suggests several policy responses that can bolster long-term and inclusive economic growth. This report has three key findings. First, crises lead to persistent employment losses and accelerate structural changes away from the formal sector. This change occurs more through reductions in the creation of formal jobs than through job destruction. Second, some workers recover from crises, while others are permanently scarred by them. Low-skilled workers can suffer up to a decade of lower earnings caused by crises, while high-skilled workers rebound fast, exacerbating the LAC region’s high level of inequality. Formal workers suffer smaller employment and wage losses in localities with higher rates of informality. And the reduced job flows caused by crises decrease welfare, but workers in localities with more job opportunities, whether formal or informal, bounce back better. Third, crises’ cleansing effects can increase efficiency and productivity, but these effects are dampened by the LAC region’s less competitive market structure. Rather than becoming more agile and productive during economic downturns, protected sectors and firms gain market share and crowd out others, trapping valuable resources. This report proposes a three-pronged mix of policies to improve the LAC region’s responses to crises: • Create a more stable macroeconomic environment to smooth the impacts of crises, including automatic stabilizers such as unemployment insurance and short-term compensation programs; • Increase the capacity of social protection and labor programs to respond to crises and coalesce these programs into systems that complement income support with reemployment assistance and reskilling opportunities; and • Tackle structural issues, including the lack of product market competition and the spatial dimension behind poor labor market adjustment—a “good jobs and good firms†? agenda.

This monograph analyses and describes successful educational actions with a specific focus on vulnerable groups (i.e. youth, migrants, cultural groups e.g. Roma, women, and people with disabilities). Concrete data that shows success in school performance in subject matters such as math or language will be provided, as well as children, teachers and families accounts of the impact of this success. Alongside, there is an analysis of the relationship between these children’s educational performance with their inclusion or exclusion from different areas of society (i.e. housing, health, employment, and social and political participation). Many studies have already diagnosed and described the causes of educational and social exclusion of these vulnerable groups. This monograph, however, provides solutions, that is, actions for success identified through the INCLUD-ED project, thus providing both, contrasted data and solid theoretical background and development. Some examples of these actions are interactive groups (or heterogeneous grouping in the classroom with reorganisation of human resources), extension of the learning time, homework clubs, tutored libraries, family and community educative participation, family education, or dialogic literary gatherings. All these actions have been defined as successful educational actions, which mean that they lead to both efficiency and equity. Finally, recommendations for policy and practice are included and discussed.
