Il s’agit d’une étude sur l’activité pédiatrique de l’association SOS MEDECINS de Nancy, créée en 1999. Elle a été réalisée entre août et novembre 2004 sur la base de questionnaires proposés aux familles, des données informatiques de l’association et des informations recueillies aux urgences pédiatriques. Les résultats sont que les enfants ont moins de 5 ans dans 65 % des cas, ils ont un suivi médical par un pédiatre ou un généraliste dans les mêmes proportions, leurs vaccins sont à jour. Leurs parents vivent en couple, dans des logements individuels, ils sont majoritairement employés. Ils ont 2 enfants en moyenne et sont au régime général de la sécurité sociale. 24% ont la CMU. Les médecins effectuent la visite dans l’heure qui suit l’appel pour 73% des cas, ils adressent 3% des enfants au POSU, dont 51% sont hospitalisés. L’activité de SOS MEDECINS est basée sur la visite à domicile, les raisons pour lesquelles les parents appellent SOS MEDECINS sont quasiment les mêmes que celles invoquées par les familles qui consultent aux urgences pédiatriques. L’activité de SOS MEDECINS a augmenté en 2004, comme chaque année depuis sa création. Alors que celle des urgences, pour les motifs médicaux, a légèrement diminuée. Les médecins de SOS devront à l’avenir multiplier les FMC de pédiatrie, renforcer leur mission de prévention auprès des familles défavorisées et améliorer les relations avec leurs partenaires de santé qui interviennent dans la prise en charge des enfants.

Introduction : dans un contexte de raréfaction de la pédiatrie de ville au profit de la médecine générale et de la pédiatrie hospitalière, et d'une nécessité de rapprochement entre SOS Médecin et les urgences pédiatrique du CHU de Nice, nous avons cherché à évaluer les connaissances théoriques des médecins de SOS Nice en pédiatrie, et à étudier l'impact d'une formation sous forme d'atelier. Matériel et méthode : il s'agit d'une étude prospective, observationnelle, d'évaluation des pratiques professionnelles, basée sur la réalisation d'un questionnaire d'une dizaine de cas cliniques, élaborés selon les recommandations actuelles de la littérature scientifique. Le questionnaire concernant 22 médecins a eu lieux avant et après une formation sous forme d'atelier pédagogique pour le groupe 1, et sans formation pour le groupe 2, puis les résultats des groupes furent comparés. Résultats : les résultats montraient globalement que les connaissances théoriques des médecins étaient insuffisantes, mais que la formation reçue avait améliorées celles-ci dans le groupe 1 par rapport au groupe 2, en supprimant certaines attitudes inadaptées et parfois dangereuses. Les conclusions étaient qu'il fallait répéter ces formations théoriques, et inciter les médecins à la formation continue et à la formation à médecine d'urgence.

Not everyone is a friend of the manifold abbreviations that have by now beCome a part of the scientific language of medicine. In order to avoid misunderstanding these abbreviations, it is wise to refer to a reliable dic tionary, such as this one prepared by Heister. The abbreviation ED means, for instance, effective dose to the pharmacologist. However, it might also stand for emetic dose. Radiologists use the same abbreviation for erythema dose, and ED could also mean ethyl dichlorarsine. A com mon meaning of ECU is European currency unit, a meaning that might not be very often in scientific medical publications. ECU, however, also means environmental control unit or European Chiropractic Union. Hopefully, those making inventions and discoveries will make use of Heister's dictionary before creating new abbreviations when preparing manuscripts for scientific publications. It is a very worthwhile goal not to use the same abbreviation for several different terms, especially if it is already widely accepted to mean only one of them. It may be impossible, however, to achieve this goal in different scientific disciplines. Therefore, although it is wise for the abbreviations used in a publication to be defined, it is also very helpful for readers and writers to use a dictionary such as this one. The author deserves our warmest thanks since we know that compiling such a comprehensive dictionary is based upon incredibly hard effort.
