Book Description
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Abstract State Machines, B, TLA, VDM and Z, which took place in Toulouse, France, in June 2014. The 13 full papers presented together with 3 invited talks and 19 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 81 submissions. The ABZ conference series is dedicated to the cross-fertilization of six related state-based and machine-based formal methods: Abstract State Machines (ASM), Alloy, B, TLA, VDM and Z. They share a common conceptual foundation and are widely used in both academia and industry for the design and analysis of hardware and software systems. The main goal of this conference series is to contribute to the integration of these formal methods, clarifying their commonalities and differences to better understand how to combine different approaches for accomplishing the various tasks in modeling, experimental validation and mathematical verification of reliable high-quality hardware/software systems.

Systematic Transformation Method from UML to Event-B

Book Description
Since the emergence of software engineering in the late 1960s, require-ments analysis has always been an important theme of software development. In the process of software development, many people are needed to coop-erate to ensure the stability and reliability of the software. According to the degree of formalization in the software development process, software en-gineering methods can be divided into three types: non-formal, semi-formal and formal. In object- oriented software development, UML has become a de facto modeling standard. However, although UML is intuitive and easy to understand and apply, it has inaccurate semantics, and UML is a semi-formal modeling language that cannot be formally verified. Event-B is a formal method based on a large number of mathematical predicate logic, which is accurate but difficult to understand and apply. Therefore, how to combine the advantages of UML diagrams and Event- B methods is the focus of re-search.

Modeling Companion for Software Practitioners
Author: Egon Börger
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3662566419
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 362
Book Description
This book uses a variety of applications to illustrate a modeling method that helps practitioners to manage complex software-intensive systems. The proposed method relies on the combination of its abstraction concept and its operational character, with behavioral models in the precise and simple form of Abstract State Machines (ASMs). The book introduces both the modeling method (Part I) and the available tool support (Part II): In Part I the authors detail (using numerous examples) how to construct, explain, debug, explore, extend and reuse accurate system design models, starting from scratch. Only an elementary knowledge of common mathematical (including set-theoretic) notation and some basic experience with computational processes (systems, programs, algorithms) is assumed. Part II then shows how the modeling method can be supported by implementing tools that make design models executable and debuggable. To illustrate how to build, debug and maintain systems and to explain their construction in a checkable manner, a general, problem-oriented refinement method is adopted to construct system models from components. The method starts with abstract models and refines them step by step, incrementally adding further details that eventually lead to code. Intended for practitioners who build software intensive systems, and students specializing in software engineering, it can be used both for self-study and for teaching, and it can serve as a reference book. Exercises are included to help readers check their understanding of the explained concepts. For many models defined in the book, refinements to executable versions can be downloaded for experimental validation from the book’s website at http://modelingbook.informatik.uni-ulm.de

New Trends in Intelligent Software Methodologies, Tools and Techniques
Author: H. Fujita
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1643681958
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 728
Book Description
The integration of AI with software is an essential enabler for science and the new economy, creating new markets and opportunities for a more reliable, flexible and robust society. Current software methodologies, tools and techniques often fall short of expectations, however, and much software remains insufficiently robust and reliable for a constantly changing and evolving market. This book presents 54 papers delivered at the 20th edition of the International Conference on New Trends in Intelligent Software Methodology Tools, and Techniques (SoMeT_21), held in Cancun, Mexico, from 21–23 September 2021. The aim of the conference was to capture the essence of a new state-of-the-art in software science and its supporting technology and to identify the challenges that such a technology will need to master, and this book explores the new trends and theories illuminating the direction of development in this field as it heads towards a transformation in the role of software and science integration in tomorrow’s global information society. The 54 revised papers were selected for publication by means of a rigorous review process involving 3 or 4 reviewers for each paper, followed by selection by the SoMeT_21 international reviewing committee. The book is divided into 9 chapters, classified by paper topic and relevance to the chapter theme. Covering topics ranging from research practices, techniques and methodologies to proposing and reporting on the solutions required by global business, the book offers an opportunity for the software science community to consider where they are today and where they are headed in the future.
