Book Description
Examination of the technology transfer principle andapplicability of disciplines other than business (i.e., nature, history, engineering, etc.) to this principle are considered. To begin, a discussion ofthe systems approach to technology transfer is presented.Sevencharacteristics of the systems approach are identified: feedback, structure, requisite variety, interrelatedness, effectors, inputs, and holisticperspective. These characteristics are then discussed in light of otherdisciplines by providing historical examples of their applicability to thesedisciplines including the Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse, the genetics of thecheetah, and the linguistics of various languages. These observations are then integrated into a real-world technology transferexample from the business arena--i.e., creation of a software package at astate university. This examination demonstrates the impact a systems-basedapproach can have on the technology transfer process.Critical questionsand observations result from this approach and are detailed in achart. Some of these questions include: (1) What feedback loops exist? (2)How successful was the dissemination of information in the researchenvironment? and (3) Did the mission statement change?(SRD).

Book Description
Systems Approach to Appropriate Technology Transfer is a collection of selected papers presented at the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Symposium, held in Vienna, Austria. The objective of the symposium is to analyze the transfer process of technologies by using the systems approach and gather insights that can be used for the enhancement of future transfer programs. The book is a rich presentation of articles and research papers from scientists and engineers from all over the world, and is composed of introductory, technical discussion, and round table discussion papers. The introductory papers give insights to the concepts of technology transfer, systems approach, and use of appropriate technologies. The technical discussions touch on technology transfer in selected fields, energy technologies, flexible manufacturing systems, information and communication, social and educational aspects, and case studies. The four round table discussions focus on the application of technologies to support small-scale enterprises and users’ participation; appropriate technology transfer on microelectronics; policies and strategies for appropriate technology transfer; and the impact of informatics on technology transfer. The text will appeal to computer scientists, engineers, policymakers, and students of information technology.

Book Description
This edited book presents research results that are relevant for scientists, practitioners and policymakers who engage in knowledge and technology transfer from different perspectives. Empirical and conceptual chapters present original approaches regarding the current practice and policies behind technology transfer. By providing analyses at the macro, meso and micro-level, the respective chapters demonstrate how technology is moving from various organizational contexts into new institutions and becoming a critical aspect for competitiveness.

Book Description
Systems Approach for Development presents articles in such topics as methodology, management and planning, education and transfer of technology, industrial application, energy, power systems, transportation and communication systems, urban systems and housing, and water resource systems. A sample of article in methodology is a simplified model approach in the hierarchical control systems. The book discusses such topics as dynamic economic models, creation of an optimum technology for olive oil production, systems prospective, types of technological forecasting techniques, and the use of a learning automata model in resource allocation problems. The optimal rate of transfer of technology is briefly analyzed and a systems approach to technological education is covered. An essay in the development of operator interface techniques is given. A section of the text provides the requirements of an ideal teaching system for microcomputers. The book will provide useful information to engineers, sociologists, economists, computer programmers, students and researchers in the field of science.
