Book Description
Excerpt from A System of Practical Surgery, Vol. 1: Surgery of the Head It seems probable from numerous observations that a fall (luring preg nancy or a blow on the abdomen may pnoject the fetal head against the promontory and in this way bruise the skin. Ou the other hand, it is doubtful whether such a shock can break the cranial bones of the foetus. In the few cases of fractured skull reported as occurring before birth, the injury might well have happened during birth. Book Description
Excerpt from Elements of Surgery, Vol. 1 of 2: For the Use of Students; With Plates Numerous circumstances combine to render neces sary an American Epitome of Practical Surgery; those members of the medical profession who, by talent and experience, are best qualified to compose it, are fully occupied by other duties, and indifferent to that species of reputation which might accrue from such a publicai tion; the labour has therefore, in the present instance, devolved upon one in many respects inadequate to the performance, and fully sensible of the imperfections of his work. Book Description
Excerpt from A System of Surgery, Vol. 1 of 5: Theoretical and Practical in Treatise by Various Authors, With Illustrations; General Pathology The object of this book is to unite into a complete sys tem the opinions and experience of many men, most of them Hospital Surgeons in London, and most of them writing on subjects of their own choice. As each subject must be treated with something of the completeness of a monograph, the work must necessarily be voluminous; but both Contributors and Editor have done their best to present each essay in as moderate a compass as the topic would allow. Where so many men unite in writing on parts of one great subject, it is hardly possible to avoid some differences of opinion; but none of much import ance will, it is hoped, be detected in the following pages, and certainly none which can destroy the uniformity of the teaching.
