Book Description
When my kids were young, like all good fathers, I used to read them stories at bedtime. But sometimes, the kids would ask me to just make up a story instead, so one night, off the top of my head, I spun a tale of two squirrels, fun-loving Flopsy and his very responsible best friend Nutsy. This became one of their most requested stories, which they enjoyed each time I told it, even after they knew the ending. While Flopsy's irresponsible ways lead him into a tight spot, in the end, he learns an important lesson, though not necessarily the one Nutsy had in mind. I recently re-told this tale to my grandsons, and their response encouraged me to publish A Pile of Trouble for others to hopefully enjoy as much as they did.

Book Description
The first book in the Carlotta Carlyle series! Linda Barnes's A Trouble of Fools is the book that introduced readers to ex-Boston cop and PI Carlotta Carlyle, who knows trouble when she sees it like the old Irish lady offering a grand in cash to find her brother... TROUBLE... Since being bounced from the Boston police for insubordination after six years of service, Carlotta Carlyle has set up shop as a private investigator ready to deal with anything from lost pets to substantially grander larcenies. Though Carlotta, a six-foot-tall, redheaded ex cop, part-time cabbie, and neophyte private eye, works out of her home, it's rare that clients stop by unannounced. Especially clients like the genteel, reserved, elderly spinster Miss Margaret Devens. ALWAYS COMES... With cash flow problems and a caseload so light that she's taken to reading her cat's mail, Carlotta accepts the case of Miss Devens's missing brother Eugene. Oddly enough, Carlotta knew Eugene when they worked together back at Green and White Cab. As far as Carlotta sees it, this case should be a pinch--until two thugs looking for money send her client to the hospital. WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT... The old lady's missing brother seems to have been involved in something much more dangerous than simply driving a cab. Carlotta is determined to do whatever it takes?work the cops, pose as a hooker, and even drive a cab again--to find Eugene before it's too late. "She is one of the most sparkling, most irresistible heroines ever to grace the pages of a whodunit." ?Chicago Sun-Times "All elements are skillfully woven together in a book that has just about everything." --Denver Post

Book Description
In the midst of spiraling ecological devastation, multispecies feminist theorist Donna J. Haraway offers provocative new ways to reconfigure our relations to the earth and all its inhabitants. She eschews referring to our current epoch as the Anthropocene, preferring to conceptualize it as what she calls the Chthulucene, as it more aptly and fully describes our epoch as one in which the human and nonhuman are inextricably linked in tentacular practices. The Chthulucene, Haraway explains, requires sym-poiesis, or making-with, rather than auto-poiesis, or self-making. Learning to stay with the trouble of living and dying together on a damaged earth will prove more conducive to the kind of thinking that would provide the means to building more livable futures. Theoretically and methodologically driven by the signifier SF—string figures, science fact, science fiction, speculative feminism, speculative fabulation, so far—Staying with the Trouble further cements Haraway's reputation as one of the most daring and original thinkers of our time.

As each scientist wrestles with the implications and practicalities of exploiting the discovery, the world comes ever closer to learning the truth . . . Trouble With Lichen is a scintillating story of the power wielded by science in our lives and asks how much trust should we place in those we appoint to be its guardians?

Book Description
At mid-life, Claire Dederer developed a sudden yearning for jailbreak. In this exuberant memoir, she reflects on two periods in her life uncannily similar in their emotional intensity: her present experience as a middle-aged mom in the grip of unruly and mysterious new hungers, and her recollections of herself as a teenager. Blazingly intelligent, wickedly funny, and piercingly honest, in Love and Trouble Dederer captures the perils and pleasures of girlhood, womanhood, and life itself.

Book Description
I attended St. Mary Academy in Monroe, Michigan. I was a resident student for the majority of my teenage years from fourteen to seventeen. I had a reputation of being a rebel, so I was sent there for discipline. This story is about the trouble I got into in those four years. I was raised and taught by the nuns. It took me a while, but I soon realized that my actions had to stop. Slowly, over those years, because of the tough love from the nuns, I literally went from crayons to perfume as the song To Sir with Love said.
