Book Description
St. Catherine of Siena was born during an outbreak of the Plague in Siena in 1347. She was brought up in the faith and especially after her own sister died at the age of sixteen found herself committed to pursuits of piety. She joined the Dominican order and, at the age of twenty-one, had what she described as her "mystical marriage" to Christ. Today, we know St. Catherine mostly through the many letters she wrote to her fellow brothers and sisters in the faith and also through a collection of visions recorded largely by her fellow nuns as she grew close to death. These meditations combine her letters with several of these revelations wherein she speaks in the first person as though speaking from God himself. In her letters and meditations she speaks at great length about obedience, the centrality of Christ crucified to the faith, and how virtue should be pursued in our quest to grow in intimacy toward God.

Book Description
St. Catherine of Siena's Dialogue describes the entire spiritual life through a series of conversations between God and the soul, represented by Catherine herself. Readers of The Dialogue of Saint Catherine of Siena, will find her revelations from God as informative - and formative - as those who recognized her sanctity during her life. The universally applicable yet intimately personal messages she received from God are as much for us as they were for Catherine. We can read God's communications to his beloved daughter with detached awe or we can receive His messages to us through her writings. Do you long for certainty that Divine Providence exists in the midst of our chaotic world? Does your prayer seem too dry, or too routine? Have you sought guidance for the challenges of your life from unhelpful people or things? Or has pride kept you from humble obedience to the Church? If so, The Dialogue will provide consolation, encouragement, and hope.

Book Description
St. Catherine of Siena (1347 - 1380) is one of the most inspiring Saints in the Catholic Church. A mystic who vowed virginity at the age of 7 and entered the Dominican order at the age of 17, she played an influential role in ending the Avignon Papacy, traveled across Italy as an advocate for Church reform, served the poor and the sick, and called for peace between the warring provinces of Italy. She also wrote hundreds of letters to all classes of people to promote their salvation. In her many ecstasies, she was mystically wed to Jesus Himself, and received the marks of the stigmata in 1375. Saint Catherine is a Doctor of the Church and is a popular Patron Saint among many individuals, families, and parishes. She is also the Patron Saint of Italy, Europe, the United States, the Philippines, firefighters, nurses, people with illnesses, people ridiculed for their faith, sexual temptation, and people who had miscarriages. This prayer journal includes beautiful artwork and a treasury of information to help increase your devotion: a biography of St. Catherine of Siena from the Catholic Encyclopedia; the Papal Bull of Pope Pius II for her Canonization; a novena and litany; prayers by St. Catherine and intercessory prayers to St. Catherine; a Dominican Five Wednesdays of Devotion to St. Catherine; and excerpts from several of her letters. It also has 73 lined pages for you to record your own prayer intentions.

Book Description
Paul Murray OP examines the depth and range of Catherine's vision of freedom, claiming that until now her understanding of freedom has received surprisingly little attention from readers and scholars. Murray demonstrates that a preoccupation with freedom is the 'fire' behind almost every page and paragraph she writes, and as a result freedom becomes her veritable obsession. He explores the liberating character of Catherine's teaching, with particular attention given to her understanding of fear as one of greatest enemies of freedom. Murray highlights the importance of self-knowledge in the journey from bondage of freedom, and employs the rubric of the Dominican motto, To Praise, to Bless, to Preach; as a benchmark to examine the remarkable freedom of Catherine's life and thought.

Book Description
Dialogue is a many-sided critical concept; at once an ancient philosophical genre, a formal component of fiction and drama, a model for the relationship of writer and reader, and a theoretical key to the nature of language. In all its forms, it questions ‘literature’, disturbing the singleness and fixity of the written text with the fluid interactivity of conversation. In this clear and concise guide to the multiple significance of the term, Peter Womack: outlines the history of dialogue form, looking at Platonic, Renaissance, Enlightenment and Modern examples illustrates the play of dialogue in the many ‘voices’ of the novel, and considers how dialogue works on the stage interprets the influential dialogic theories of Mikhail Bakhtin examines the idea that literary study itself consists of a ‘dialogue’ with the past presents a useful glossary and further reading section. Practical and thought-provoking, this volume is the ideal starting-point for the exploration of this diverse and fascinating literary form.
