Collection contains three letters. Letter dated 1827 February 20th from J.W. Vinton, detailing his interactions with the Governor of Georgia, George Troup, over the Treaty of Indian Springs (1825), which ceded a large portion of land from the Creek Native Americans to Georgia, and the 1826 Treaty of Washington, which changed the terms of the Treaty of Indian Springs. Troup threatened rebellion and mobilized the Georgia militia to attack federal troops if the 1826 treaty was enforced. Letter dated 1826, October 13th from Major General Jacob Brown's nephew, T.S. Brown. Brown's nephew was given a choice between remaining with the Corps of Engineers or transferring to a new position in the South, which T.S. Brown did not wish to do, but ultimately deferred to his uncle, allowing his uncle to make the decision. Letter dated 1815 December 4th, written to the Northern Division at West Point from Jacob J. Brown, thanking the students for their address and reminding them of their duty to serve and defend this country.
