Hence the idea which ultimately culminated in the foundation of the Daily News was often in his mind, and we find him writing to Forster at the beginning of 1845 suggesting the possibility of a weekly newspaper given over to reviews of books, theatrical criticism, "notices of all good things, notices of all bad ones, 'Carol' philosophy, cheerful views, sharp anatomisation of humbug, jolly good temper...becoming reference in everything to Home and Fireside.
