Book Description
Excerpt from Annual Report of the Board of Water Commissioners to the Councils of the City of Erie, for the Year Fiscal Year Ending April 30, 1879: Accompanied by the Report of the Chief Engineer of the Pumping Works, to the Board During the year considerable coal has been stolen from the cars while standing on the side switch, and I am at a loss to know how to prevent this in the future, as the pay of a watch man would probably exceed the value of the coal clandestinely removed. The importance of this matter should elicit the ear ly attention of the Board. The gas at the wells is slowly diminishing, and the quantity has become so small that I would suggest that an effort be made to increase the supply. This might be accomplished by sinking the East well deeper, and by a thorough cleaning of both. The Engine and Boiler House should be painted, in or der to preserve the wood work, and the water tower should also be painted, or slushed with mineral oils. With these suggestions I respectfully submit my report. N. W. Dun lap. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Twenty-First Annual Report of the Board of Water Commissioners to the City Council: Together With the Reports of the Registrar and Superintendent for the Year 1894 The large increase in 1892 and 1893 was attributed, in great measure, to the introduction of J abish brook water, and the consequent improvement in the quality of the supply, while the smaller gain of the past year is accounted for, in part, by the fact that the total bills committed for collection have increased much less than formerly, and owing to the financial depression in general business a larger amount of bills than usual remain uncollected. Book Description
Excerpt from Fifth Annual Report of the Water Commissioner: For the Year Ending Jan; 31, 1900 Dear Sir, - I submit herewith the fifth annual report of the Water Commissioner for the year ending January 31, 1900. I received my appointment as Water Commissioner on the 23d of December, and qualified on the 28th of December, 1899. As I did not assume the duties of the office until nearly the end of the financial year I shall not attempt to make any elaborate report on the operations of the department during the past year, but shall confine myself to a general statement of the financial condition of the department at the end of the year, as shown by the reports of the different heads of divisions, and shall make such suggestions as have occurred to me during my brief occupancy of the office. It appears by the statements herewith annexed that the total receipts from all sources during the year were $2,289, -739.50; less refunded water rates, $1906.87; making the net receipts $2,288,832.63. The total current expenditures of the Water Works from revenue for the year ending January 31, 1900, including interest on funded debt, sinking fund requirements, 1898-99, and the Metropolitan water assessment, were $1,992,581.91; leaving a balance, which was transferred to the general revenue of the city, of $296,250.72. In addition to this balance there is now due from other city departments for water about $218,000, which amount, if added to the above balance, would show a net surplus of $514,250.72.
