Book Description
For the increasing number of people diagnosed with dementia each year, treatment in the early stages can make a significant difference to their quality of life. This book provides examples of psychosocial interventions: taking into consideration the individual, social and environmental aspects of the person's life. It looks at ways of providing support at the time of diagnosis and goes on to explore a variety of interventions and services for the treatment of early dementia. Bringing together the knowledge and experiences of professionals from both the UK and Europe, the contributors describe interventions for both psychological and practical problems with case examples such as memory support groups, art therapies and assistive technologies for use in the home. This accessible book will be essential reading for practitioners and carers working with those with early dementia and will be extremely useful in both professional development and for those new to dementia care.

Book Description

Book Description
The articles which make up this book were all expressly written to honor a remarkable man and a remarkable psychologist, Joseph McVicker Hunt, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The contributors to this volume, with the exception of Hunt's teacher, J. P. Guilford, are students and colleagues of Hunt's whose intellectual and professional paths have crossed his in some significant way. In terms of content, the contributions collectively range across many of the conventional boundaries that demarcate the territories into which psy chological subject-matter has been divided. In so doing, they remain faithful to the man they honor, for whom such boundaries have had, at best, only provisional reality. Yet as the introductory chapter attempts to make clear, there is a unifying theme that lies behind the apparent diversity of Hunt's work. While we wished to mark Hunt's specific contributions to the diverse areas represented in this book, we also hoped to capture the unity of viewpoint that ties them together.

Book Description
This volume presents clearly defined and described evidence-based positive psychology interventions (PPIs), which have been validated in multi-cultural contexts. It discusses validated PPIs which have been shown to have a significant impact in both clinical and real-world settings. From the late 1990s, there has been an upsurge in popular psychological “self-help” publications drawing from processes and principles of positive psychology. These publications are based on clinically validated PPI studies and translated in a “consumer friendly” manner. However, in these popular works the intervention methods are significantly altered from the original forms, and the contexts of the consumers are meaningfully different from those of the original study populations, the impact on outcome variables are often misinterpreted or over-inflated, and incorrect outcome variables are targeted. Original research articles also do not extensively discuss the content of the interventions, but merely present short descriptions of the PPI. As such, the intervention content cannot accurately be translated into practice. Hence, the need for this volume which discusses in depth how validated PPIs in various multi-cultural contexts work in both clinical and real-world settings.

Book Description
This first book of a two-volume series describes current research and state of the art clinical practice the shed light on the developmental origins of psychopathology in the first year of life, i.e. approximately up to the emergence of secondary intersubjectivity and/or walking. The second volume explores the interactional underpinnings of psychopathology in toddlerhood, from the time of voluntarily gross motor functioning to the emergence and basic organization of symbolic language at 24-30 months. A comprehensive approach is adopted, focusing on the fundamentally interactive nature of early development and examining interactions both with caregivers and more broadly with the socio-cultural environment. The books describe the processes involved in psychopathological trajectories and provide clinical insight into tailored, culturally sensitive therapeutic care in diverse environments. This volume discusses in detail situations placing the infant at risk and the nature of infant development, including communication, intersubjectivity, functional development, and affective and emotional development. Culturally and socially sensitive approaches to psychopathology are examined, with examples of specific infant- and family-centered therapies. Information on risk of abuse and neglect and infant protection policies is included.

Book Description
Suicide is a multifaceted phenomenon, with numerous contributing and facilitating factors and variables. Despite motherhood serving as a potential protective factor against suicidal tendencies, a notable prevalence of suicidality persists among pregnant and postpartum women, making suicide a leading cause of death among women with postpartum depression (PDD). Furthermore, numerous women experience emotional challenges during pregnancy, which often persist into the postpartum phase, thus making them also susceptible to depression and suicidality. This Research Topic is dedicated to studies exploring various approaches to suicidal behavior, depression as well as of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI)among pregnant and postpartum women. The purpose of this Research Topic is to elucidate comprehensive analyses of extant knowledge and empirical data about models, theories, and specific dimensions and variables that may help us increase the understanding of suicidal phenomena among perinatal women (pregnant and postpartum). The specific goal is to identify characteristics that may be used to develop prevention and intervention methods among this at-risk population.
