Book Description
Pure Love is a short but intense novel that demonstrates the love between two people at a much-deeper level than normal humans love each other. Their love starts at an early age and takes them through some of their adult life. Some of the language and love is somewhat graphic, but it depicts human nature. The story starts when Betty Sue is only eight and Alan is twelve. They both lost their parents to the Spanish flu, which occurred during and just after World War I. Alan had lost his sister at that time, who he loved dearly. She was the same age as Betty Sue, and Betty has much of Alans sisters mannerisms, which causes Alan to love her. Both are put into a satellite orphanage in Chicago. The authorities try to separate them, and they run away, starting the adventure of their lives.

Book Description
“Impressive....De Haven writes about people from many levels of society, both in his fantasy setting and in the contemporary world; in so doing, he reflects the complexity that many of us forget to notice in our day-to-day living. This is a major fantasy story; miss it at your peril.” —Locus Jack, a Walker, is in danger. He has learned a secret; he has earned an enemy. And the Mage of Four, Mage of Luck, is a powerful enemy indeed. Jack must flee the world of Lostwithal. He must flee to Kemolo. To our world. The secret he carries could mean the end of all the worlds, not just his own. The Epicene is coming, and with it a gate will open through which chaos will flow, overwhelming the universes. But Jack cannot violate the Order of Things, not even to preserve it. Until he can present what he has learned to the King, he must hide. And there is nowhere in Lostwithal that is safe from the Mage of Four. Mage of Luck, Jack, a Walker, must walk between the worlds. Even here he is not safe. His enemies can pursue him through the streets of our world, tracking him with magically infallible instinct. All the vast powers of the Mage of Four, Mage of Luck, are arrayed against him. But Jack is not alone. He has gathered a small group of unlikely, sometimes unwilling allies: Geebo, a man whose memory has been brutally erased; Jere Lee, a woman who has lost everything but her dignity; Herb Dierickx, chauffeur to the wealthy and powerful Gene Boman; and Money Campbell, the boy billionaire’s calculating mistress. In the ultimate confrontation, their efforts will determine the fate of the universes. “Tom De Haven’s work combines a soaring imagination, a gift for character acting and a curiosity for fantastic lives.” —The Washington Post “One of my five favorite writers in the world.” —Harlan Ellison

Book Description
Saxom is dead. The vampires know this. Anthony Hancock, Director of the Joint NSA/Homeland Security Department, knows it as well. Tony and the vampires are now on the hunt for Saxom's brood, all of whom are determined to avenge their sire's death. Neither Tony nor the vampires are aware of the other's efforts to search out these rogues, who may number in the hundreds at the very least. Tony holds information the vampires don't—he knows that Xenides, Saxom's eldest vampire child, has allied with terrorists (both foreign and domestic). Tony also neglects to provide vital information to Wlodek when he requests Lissa's help. While struggling to recover from a near-fatal bout with the sun, Lissa fails to understand why Wlodek willingly sends her away on assignment so quickly. With very little information provided to her, Lissa is forced to face an enemy more deadly than anyone can imagine and unravel a plot that could kill millions.

Book Description
An incomparable collection of wit and wisdom from a master of comic writing After creating the popular Franglais! series, Miles Kington always had an ambition: to write a book in English as well. An “endlessly curious and observant hack”, as he described himself, here a gentle wit and wide-ranging intelligence are brought to bear on everything from the curious geography of Jersey to anthropological studies on German prisoners of war; from an interview with the Mona Lisa to why there’s no such thing as a good jazz singer, via an interrogation of Nostradamus. Originally written for a wide range of publications, these pieces show Kington really letting his hair down, largely on the grounds that he never expected anyone to read them anyway. Together, they form an effervescent collection of light verse, memoir and listicles (yes, he was there first). In Miles and Miles we have a demonstration of a comic master at work, and a testament to the timeless class of one of Britain’s most-loved humorists.

Book Description
William C. Borland started his adulthood hiking up all forty-six peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Before long, the more adventurous individuals in his group began to hike the high points of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Then, they began talking about how to hike the 2,160-mile-long Georgia-to-Maine Appalachian Trail. After reading Seven Summits by Frank Wells and Dick Bass, who detailed how they climbed the highest mountain on each continent, Borland was inspired to set his sights even higher. Suddenly, it seemed possible for a mere mortal without superhuman climbing strength or skills to scale the highest mountains, and he decided to climb Mount McKinley (now known as Denali) in Alaska. From there, he began mountaineering and riding his bicycle on all seven continents.

Book Description
How digital visual effects in film can be used to support storytelling: a guide for scriptwriters and students. Computer-generated effects are often blamed for bad Hollywood movies. Yet when a critic complains that "technology swamps storytelling" (in a review of Van Helsing, calling it "an example of everything that is wrong with Hollywood computer-generated effects movies"), it says more about the weakness of the story than the strength of the technology. In Digital Storytelling, Shilo McClean shows how digital visual effects can be a tool of storytelling in film, adding narrative power as do sound, color, and "experimental" camera angles—other innovative film technologies that were once criticized for being distractions from the story. It is time, she says, to rethink the function of digital visual effects. Effects artists say—contrary to the critics—that effects always derive from story. Digital effects are a part of production, not post-production; they are becoming part of the story development process. Digital Storytelling is grounded in filmmaking, the scriptwriting process in particular. McClean considers crucial questions about digital visual effects—whether they undermine classical storytelling structure, if they always call attention to themselves, whether their use is limited to certain genres—and looks at contemporary films (including a chapter-long analysis of Steven Spielberg's use of computer-generated effects) and contemporary film theory to find the answers. McClean argues that to consider digital visual effects as simply contributing the "wow" factor underestimates them. They are, she writes, the legitimate inheritors of film storycraft.
