Book Description
Peter was born in Western Kenya, in the then Busia District. He went to school at a local primary school, then to Kolanya and Maseno School for O and A levels respectively. He graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor of Education Degree in Science in 1988. He taught Biology and Geography briefly in Pe-Hill High School and Kisumu Girls High School. In 1991, Peter joined the National Museums of Kenya as an Education Officer and worked in the Kisumu Museum until 1996, when he was moved to Meru Museum as the Curator in charge. From 2007 to 2008, he was the acting Executive Director of the International Council of African Museums (AFRICOM)-an International NGO of Heritage Institutions in Africa, with its Secretariat atthe Nairobi National Museum. In 2009, Peter moved to his current posting as the coordinator of the Movable Heritage Programme at the Centre for Heritage development in Africa (CHDA)-based in Mombasa, Kenya. He is married to Iren OlesiSumbu and they have five children.A casual meeting in a Nairobi pub brings together a few witnesses to the brutal hand of the Government of Kenya. From what appears to be a discussion of people simply unhappy with political events, a plan to topple the Government of Kenya takes shape.Led by a Professor of Political Science at one of the local universities, a group from across the country's diverse ethnic divide come together and crystalize the coup plan. However, along the way major interests come aboard. The Government of Uganda, the United States and Britain have something in common. They do not like the style and leadership policies of the leader of Kenya. They would be happy to see him give way to a person who is more agreeable to their interests. And so they get involved. However, the approach to effecting the change has to itself change. From a military coup de tat earlier envisaged, the supporters of the change now arrange to force the Kenyan leader to give up power by assassinating many of his leading advisors-the group commonly called the Kitchen Cabinet. Commandoes are recruited from Uganda and come into Kenya through the Mount Elgon forest areas.By the time the masterminds are arrested, it is too late. Things have gotten out of hand. The Ugandan commandos are in full charge and are taking instructions only from their superiors back home.In a fast-changing situation, the best the President can be granted is asylum.
