Book Description
As a military service member, you’re looking forward to life after deployment and being back home among family and friends. But adjusting to "normal" life again can bring its own challenges. You’re not the same person you were when you left on deployment. This book, written by military psychologists Moore and Kennedy, is a down-to-earth guide that’s full of practical advice. The authors talk straight about both the joys and challenges of returning home, advising that one size does NOT fit all when it comes to making the transition. They share thoughtful, constructive tips for dealing with unwanted surprises like relationship break-ups, financial problems, and kids who are suddenly strangers. Experiences shared by many returning service members, like sleep disturbances, anger management, and learning to live with "hyperstartle," are also discussed. For those whose transition has been more difficult, chapters on identifying the signs of PTSD, living with disturbing memories, and seeking relief from suicidal thoughts are particularly valuable. A final appendix is the definitive guide to support services for military members, with resources on everything from kid’s books to financial management websites.

Book Description
Gold Stripe on a Jackass is a conceptually rich description of one naval officer's career journey. Author Stephen B. Sloane began his career in Annapolis, where the commandment of obedience holds sway, and finished in Berkeley, a place where questioning authority is woven deeply into the cultural fabric. Sloane rejects the conventional role of corporate, government, and military ideals by demonstrating that efficiency can be attained without sacrificing morality. He maintains that the person who dons the "gold stripe" of authority should reject the role of "jackass" and strive for moral efficiency by regarding the expenditure of human life as a cost rather than the utilization of a tangible resource. Inspired by Admiral James Bond Stockdale's experience as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam, Sloane asserts that a man's ethical posture and philosophical outlook can enable him and others to survive even the direst conditions with honor. Gold Stripe on a Jackass provides readers with a guide to individual responsibility for leadership decision making that emphasizes the requirement to question authority and the need to speak truth to power. This is an original and enlightening contribution to scholarship and education as well as a moral compass for those who occupy positions of authority in the corporate and governmental sectors of society.

Book Description
My Side of the Story shares a narrative of G. Warren Collier's World War II experiences in the western European theater, as told to his daughter, Judy Collier Johnson. He shares the intimate detail of what it was like to be in the army during World War II through a series of letters and recollections. As a private serving the company commander as his driver, he was privy to the ways the army operated, which were frequently unorganized at best. Many times, Collier and his commander took a command car on dangerous scouting expeditions. At the same time he was driving for the commander, he was also serving as the company clerk since he was the only man in his company who could type. Th rough his work, he became acquainted with ordinary soldiers and spent as much time with them as possible. My Side of the Story paints a picture of lives of everyday soldiers during World War II and the joys and heartaches they shared.

Book Description
The Flying Prostitute was one of many pseudonyms given the B-26 Martin Marauder bomber in WWII by those who flew them. This plane cremated so many crewmen that newscasters were afraid to write or talk about it for fear this might cause a morale problem with our men who were told to fly them. The author recites his cadet life at Randolph Field, San Antonio, Texas, THE WEST POINT OF THE AIR, where he became the top-ranking cadet officer. He then earned his wings at Ellington Field, Texas and, along with others of his class, was assigned to be an Instructor Pilot of this aircraft for seventeen months. So many men were being killed in horrible crashes that each wore their Air Force Wings as bracelets on their wrists so their bodies could be identified, just in case. Combat in the skies over Europe followed, and so did the crashes. Pilots did not know the mammoth tail could, and had separated from this airplane while in flight. Pilots knew the propellers could runaway and cremate their entire crew in disastrous, fiery crashes. Pilots did not know the manufacturers of parts of this airplane were falsifying reports and Congress knew it. They did know that they could be killed every time they took one up. This dramatic, true story is shocking in its detail and documentation. The refusal to write about this airplane remains an enigma for writers even to this day.
