Book Description
What is love? This six-week Bible study helps teen girls understand what true love looks like. By focusing on the life of Jesus, these girls will come to understand that Love is, first and foremost, a Someone. The more we understand Jesus, the more we understand God's original intent behind this overused, abused, and muddled word: love. Each week girls will do an in-depth study of one of Jesus' relationships described in the Bible. By examining the way Jesus interacted with others, they will see the perfect example of love. Through four repetitive phases—read, realize, respond, and retain—teen girls will learn a method of studying the Bible that they can apply to any Scripture passage and that will motivate them to read more frequently and independently in the future. By analyzing the Bible stories, each girl will in turn be able to analyze her own relationships to see if they are based on God’s idea of love, and will walk away with a deeper understanding of the love relationship God seeks to have with her. Features include: 6 sessions of study

Book Description
Improper self-love leads to a lifestyle that is selfish and self-destructive. But failing to love yourself adequately is also self-destructive. Without proper self-esteem, people fail to use their God-given gifts and have difficulty loving others. Jesus calls us to walk the narrow road between selfishness and selflessness. This study will help you do so. You will learn how to study the Bible as you examine and discuss topics such as Loving Ourselves, Valuing Ourselves, Understanding Ourselves, Behaving Ourselves, Forgiveness for Ourselves, Growing Ourselves, Being Ourselves. Each chapter has three main sections: Group Study (materials for a sixty- to ninety-minute small-group Bible study); Study Resources (notes and comments for use in both group and personal study); Personal Study (a series of reflection questions for use by group members on their own during the week). Extra help is available at the end of the book in the sections The Art of Leadership (tips on how to lead a small group) and Small Group Leader's Guide (notes on each session). The goal of PILGRIMAGE GUIDES is to understand what it means for us to meet and know Jesus. Through an examination of the spiritual disciplines of Bible study, prayer, and worship, we experience what it means to be a spiritual pilgrim--walking in a new way with God. The Triumph of Love
Author: Eric Reitan
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1498296262
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 299
Book Description
Recent years have witnessed an astonishing cultural and legal shift when it comes to homosexuality and same-sex marriage. Many Christians see these changes as a defeat for Christian values, often painting Christian opponents as sell-outs to secular culture. But can there be a genuinely Christian case for same-sex marriage? This book makes that case. While sensitive to scriptural issues, it focuses on a question that cannot be answered by Scripture alone: What does love for our gay and lesbian neighbors demand? This question calls us to pair theological, philosophical, and scriptural reflection with something else: attention to gay and lesbian lives. We must attend to the psychological research and, more importantly, to the stories our gay and lesbian neighbors tell us about themselves and their experience. Love does not permit us to plug our ears with Bible verses. While this book argues that Christian love calls us to make same-sex marriage available, the deeper conclusion is that Christian values prevail when we wrestle with these questions in a spirit of love: love for those with whom we disagree, and love for those most affected by the decisions we reach.

Learning to Love Others
Author: Richard Peace
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1498224369
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 89
Book Description
At the heart of Jesus' call to us is the call to love others. But this can be so difficult. For one thing, others are not always very lovable; for another, loving others sometimes gets in the way of our own self-interests. But if we want to follow Jesus, love needs to be our lifestyle, and the way we treat others really does matter. It's not all sacrifice and pain, though. To be in loving relationship with others is to be truly alive--and it's the source of our greatest joy. This study will help you love others the way Jesus desires. You'll learn how to study the Bible as you examine and discuss topics such as Loving Others, Loving Our Families, Fellowship with Others, Getting Along with Others, Opposition from Others, Sharing Our Faith with Others, Serving Others. And we look at how this new way changes the way we view others and live our lives in Christ. PILGRIMAGE GUIDES: Learning to Love God Learning to Love Ourselves Learning to Love Others
