Logbook of the whaling voyage of the ship William Tell, kept by cabin boy Nathan P. Hand, dated 1857-1859. Commanded by Captain James L. Austin, the ship sailed from Sag Harbor, New York, bound for the Pacific coast. The logbook records the daily weather, latitude and longitude, and activities of the crew, including hunting whales and porpoises, and observations of other ships, during journeys to the Arctic Ocean, Sandwich Islands, Marquesas Islands, New Zealand, and the northwest United States. There are illustrations and verses tipped in at the end of the volume that were added in the 20th century.

Whaling log and diary of William Ellen Wallace, probably a boatsteerer, of a voyage of the ship John & Edward from New Bedford, Massachusetts, to the Indian Ocean and South Pacific, undertaken 1841-1844. Provides a detailed account of each day at sea, including the ship's position, wheather, other ships sighted, whale sightings, and activities onboard including fights and floggings. Includes lists of items found adrift at sea, ships spoken, and whales caught and sighted. Throughout the journal entries and in about 20 pages at the end of the log, Wallace recorded his dreams, which bring insight to his mental state during the course of the voyage. Also at the end of the log are a series of poems and reflections by Wallace. Stamps of different types of whales appear in several log entries.
