Book Description
Both the D0 and CDF experiments at Fermilab Tevatron collider at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV have accumulated over 50pb[sup -1] of data. Each experiment collected more than 50,000 W[yields] l+v and 5000 Z[yields] l+[bar l] candidates for each lepton species (e and[mu]). Using this large data sample of W and Z candidates, the two experiments are actively testing perturbative QCD predictions. Among the studies that are in progress, preliminary results of W/Z+jets characteristics, multiplicity distributions of associated jets, and a study on the determination of the strong coupling constant using the ratio of the W+1 jet to W+ 0 jet cross sections are presented.

Book Description
The production properties of jets in W events have been measured using (square root)s = 1.8 TeV pp collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Experimental results from several CDF and D0 analyses are compared to leading-order and next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.

Book Description
Measurements of the inclusive jet cross section and the dijet angular distribution using data from the Tevatron are presented Comparisons to NLO QCD show good agreement below 250 GeV, but CDF data show an excess at higher E{sub T}; qualitative agreement is seen between the CDF and D0 cross sections. Analysis of the dijet angular distributions exclude quark compositeness below 2.1 TeV.

Book Description
We report the production jet cross-sections and properties in W and Z events using data from collisions with [radical]s = 1800 GeV at Fermilab Tevatron. Observed distributions in general agree with predictions of leading order QCD matrix element calculations with added gluon radiations and simulated parton fragmentations; however, some limitations of LO QCD predictions are also observed. The cross-section ratio of W + [>=] 1 jet events to inclusive W events is reported and compared with next-to-the-leading order QCD expectations. Good agreement between data and theory is seen. The color coherence effects are also observed in W+ jets events.

10th Conference on the Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics
Author: Marvin L. Marshak
Publisher: American Institute of Physics
ISBN: 9780735407237
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1010
Book Description
CIPANP 2009 explores areas of common interest between nuclear physicists, high energy (particle) physicists and astrophysicists. These areas range from studies of the strong interactions that bind nuclei together to physics of the very early Universe and include such topics as neutrinos, hadron physics, spin physics, heavy ion physics, QCD and heavy flavor physics. The Conference papers include descriptions of searches for "new physics", phenomena that cannot be accounted for by current theories.

Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 483
Book Description
The book gives a quite complete and up-to-date picture of the Standard Theory with an historical perspective, with a collection of articles written by some of the protagonists of present particle physics. The theoretical developments are described together with the most up-to-date experimental tests, including the discovery of the Higgs Boson and the measurement of its mass as well as the most precise measurements of the top mass, giving the reader a complete description of our present understanding of particle physics.
