Book Description
The importance of food safety for human health has been widely recognized. The safety of foods of animal origin is particularly relevant because the large majority of foodborne diseases come from poultry, eggs, meat, milk and dairy products and fish. This textbook covers an integrated approach to this type of food production, hygiene and safety and shows how it results in concurrent benefits to animal well being, human health, protection of the environment and socioeconomics.

Book Description
Research in veterinary science is critical for the health and well-being of animals, including humans. Food safety, emerging infectious diseases, the development of new therapies, and the possibility of bioterrorism are examples of issues addressed by veterinary science that have an impact on both human and animal health. However, there is a lack of scientists engaged in veterinary research. Too few veterinarians pursue research careers, and there is a shortage of facilities and funding for conducting research. This report identifies questions and issues that veterinary research can help to address, and discusses the scientific expertise and infrastructure needed to meet the most critical research needs. The report finds that there is an urgent need to provide adequate resources for investigators, training programs, and facilities involved in veterinary research.

Book Description
Many factors have changed interactions between people, animals, and our environment including the emergence and reemergence of diseases such as swine flu, rabies, and diphtheria. By practicing the concept of one health, which relates the close interactions between people, animals, and our environment to overall health, a solution for global wellbeing can be found. Global Applications of One Health Practice and Care provides in-depth research on the concept of one health and the ability to achieve universal health by connecting human health with animal health and a safe environment. Featuring coverage on a broad range of topics such as holism health, drug resistance, and parasitic zoonoses, this book is ideally designed for policy planners, program managers, public health practitioners, animal health specialists, environmentalists, researchers, and academicians seeking current research on achieving better public health outcomes.

Book Description
Since the publication of the report of a Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Veterinary Public Health in 1975, many significant developments have occurred in this field. The present report of a WHO Study Group re-examines the role and functions of veterinary public health and its contribution to public health practice today and in the years to come. Since 1975, new emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases have acquired global significance for human health, and have required rapid responses from, and team-work between, physicians, veterinarians, and biologists. The veterinary sector has a long and distinguished history in contributing to the maintenance and promotion of public health. As health is multidimensional, health policy and practice should be inter-disciplinary and intersectoral. Therefore, the contributions of other sectors - in particular agriculture, animal health and production, food industry, education, housing, public works and communications - are vital. Such concerted action is particularly needed in developing countries with weak infrastructure and limited resources. This report reviews current and foreseen global changes for their potential implications on veterinary public health with regards to national and international policies, management of programmes and training. The report also provides recommendations for action in these areas.

Book Description
Veterinary public health is a component of public health that focuses on the application of veterinary science to protect and improve the physical, mental and social well-being of humans. Veterinary public health concerns the surveillance and control of zoonoses at many different levels be it via disease control programs at farm level or wild animals or in the abattoir. One Health is "the collaborative efforts of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally, and globally, to attain optimal health for people, animals and our environment", as defined by the One Health Initiative Task Force (OHITF). A major zoonosis is Rabies. Approximately 5,000 animal rabies cases are reported annually to CDC, and more than 90% of those cases occur in wildlife.
