Book Description
“Beautifully written, compellingly personal, and a treasure to read.” —Most Rev. Charles J. Chaput, OFM, Cap., Archbishop of Philadelphia “This spiritually grounded, easy-to-read treatise is a solid piece of research, and yet is still packed throughout with supporting anecdotes that the reader will recognize and appreciate. Eminently practicable, Unrepeatable is for every Christian, especially the teacher, counselor, or spiritual director, who is truly serious about sifting through the cultural morass to find the ‘right’ vocation, rather than just a job.” —Bishop Robert Barron, Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Los Angeles What if we were able to gain profound insight into the unique design, creative drive, and potential destiny of the people in our lives? The bold promise of this book is that we can. This ability carries an awesome responsibility: We must all be mentors and midwives to the personal vocations of others. Unrepeatable is about the urgent need for each of us to cultivate the vocations of others and the steps we should take to do it well. By smartly weaving evocative stories of those who have radically lived out their callings with practical tools for discernment and mentorship, Luke Burgis and Joshua Miller—who have a combined twenty-five years of experience helping people and organizations discover their purpose—turn staid perceptions of vocation on their head. Unrepeatable will equip you to: • Renew your church, school, community, or company by empowering every member to discover, embrace, and fully live out their unique calling • Confidently teach and mentor young people in critical skills of discernment and decision-making • Know and be known by others in a deeply personal way through a technique that unlocks and awakens the deepest desires of the heart As we enter into the stories of others’ lives, we enter into the story of God’s love. There is no greater adventure. Unrepeatable invites you to be a part of it.

Paths Of Love
Author: Joseph Bolin
Publisher: Joseph Bolin
ISBN: 1438228465
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 116
Book Description
"At last I have found my vocation. My vocation is love!" Love is the heart of every vocation. This book about vocation to marriage, priesthood, or religious life, has several unique features. First, while being addressed to all Catholics, not only to theologians, it does not oversimplify vocation, or give a mere compilation of advice, but aims to present the rich depth and wealth of the Christian understanding of vocation in a simple and accessible manner. Secondly, this book goes right to two great saints at the heart of quite different traditions on vocation, namely St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Ignatius Loyola, and the basic difference between them, a difference which is often unappreciated, or is passed over superficially. The goal is not to decide in favor of one over the other, nor to examine in detail their historical or theological connection; this book rather aims to use these different points of view to convey all that belongs to a full Christian and human approach to vocation.

The Kingdom Manifesto
Author: Steve Wilmshurst
Publisher: Strange Chemistry
ISBN: 9780852348260
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
An exploration of the Sermon on the Mount for today. The Sermon on the Mount, like the rest of the New Testament, speaks of the kingdom with a present and a future sense. The Beatitudes refer to the kingdom primarily in its present aspect (5:3, 10) Jesus is saying, this is what kingdom people are like now. In 7:21, however, Jesus is speaking of the Day of Judgment, and the kingdom referred to is the completed, perfected eternal kingdom. In theological language, the kingdom of heaven is therefore eschatological it relates to the new age, the eternal age, but it is already present in some measure now. At the outset of his ministry Jesus proclaims that the kingdom of heaven is near (4:17, echoing John the Baptiser in 3:2). The sense of the Greek is that the kingdom has come near and is now present in the vicinity, waiting to be populated by the members Jesus will call into it. In that context, 11:12 (the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing) is like a progress report. The kingdom is here and now, and the Sermon on the Mount calls us to make it visible, both individually and corporately.

Spiritual Direction: A Guide for Sharing the Father’s Love
Author: Fr. Boniface Hicks
Publisher: Emmaus Road Publishing
ISBN: 194512556X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 308
Book Description
The need for spiritual direction—or the accompaniment of a spiritual guide—is becoming more prominent in a world where so many are suffering from so many wounds. With a harmonious integration of both timeless spiritual wisdom from the Catholic Church’s tradition of prayer and direction, and the insight of the psychological sciences, Fathers Thomas Acklin and Boniface Hicks offer a comprehensive guide for all who provide or seek spiritual direction. Spiritual Direction: A Guide for Sharing the Father’s Love fortifies priests, religious, and lay faithful who embrace the ministry of spiritual direction and accompany the wounded, assist men and women in hearing the voice of God, and model the love and mercy of the Father for the many who are seeking Him but do not know Him or have false images of Him. This book also shows how various aspects of the spiritual life can emerge from and be fostered by a one-on-one relationship with a spiritual director. Together with concrete guidelines and numerous examples from personal experience, this book refers extensively to Sacred Scripture as the foundation for spiritual direction. Furthermore, since the practice of spiritual direction goes back to the first centuries of the Church, the authors turn for guidance to the Doctors of the Church, the writings of the saints, and the papal magisterium in developing and supporting their insights. Spiritual Direction will call spiritual directors to deeper holiness even as they assist others in growing closer to the Father through His loving gaze of mercy.
