Book Description
Excerpt from Eighteenth Annual Report of the Secretary of State of the State of Michigan, Relating to Farms and Farm Products, 1895-6 The improved land as returned for this report is but acres less than the improved land tilled, including fallow and grass in rotation (whether pasture or meadow) reported in the census of 1894. The large increase from year to year of improved land reported in the Farm Statis tics, indicates that these reports will soon show all the improved land in the State that is tilled including fallow and grass in rotation. The land devoted to market garden truck and permanent pasture is not likely to be reported so long as the blank does not contain separate columns specially provided for such return. The area of improved land in the southern counties is returned at acres; in the central counties at acres; in the northern counties at acres, and in the upper peninsula at acres, There was an increase in each section as follows: Southern counties, acres; central counties, acres; northern counties, acres and upper peninsula acres.
