Responses to questions pertaining to harvest of migratory game birds other than waterfowl and coots included in the annual mail questionnaire survey of waterfowl hunters are summarized for the hunting seasons of 1964-65 through 1968-69. Results show an upward trend in hunting and harvest of other migratory game birds. This trend is correlated with an increase in duck stamp sales since 1965-66 but in general the increase in other migratory game bird hunting is greater. Analysis of these data demonstrates the weaknesses inherent in using a sampling fram based on duck stamp buyers to assess harvest and hunting of other migratory game birds.

Hunting activity and harvest estimates for 10 species or groups of migratory game birds other than waterfowl, based on data collected for 13 seasons (1964-76) in the Annual Questionnaire Survey of U.S. Waterfowl Hunters, are presented. A number of long-term trends were noted. High correlations obtained between certain results in the survey and the results of independent surveys are discussed. The inescapable conclusion is that, although this survey of waterfowl hunters provides valuable data on the subject, a better sampling frame (or frames) for measuring the activity and success of all hunters of migratory game birds other than waterfowl is needed to meet the high standards now being set for the management of this valuable resource.

U.S. mourning dove population indexes increased by 4% from 1969 to 1970 in the Eastern Management Unit, but declined 2% in the Central Management Unit and 11% in the Western Management Unit. The changes were below the 10-year means, 1960-69, by 3% in the Eastern Unit, 15% in the Central, and 27% in the Western. Regression analyses of the call-count data for 1960-70 indicate a statistically significant downward trend in dove breeding populations in all management units; mean rates of decline were 1% a year in the Eastern Unit, 3% a year in the Central, and 4% in the Western
