Book Description
Traveling through Text compares religious ravel writing by Muslims, Christians and Jews in later Middle Ages. This comparative approach allows us to see that writers in all three religious communities used travel writing in the same way, to shape the perceptions of their readers by asserting the author's authority. The central paradox of religious travel writing is that the travel writer reads about a place, usually in a sacred text, decide to supplement the reading with the empirical experience of visiting and describing the place, and the creates his own descriptive text. But in writing this new book, and in letting his readers know his authorial authority, the travel writer himself is daring the reader to challenge the new text. Is a book ever enough? For societies that value their sacred texts, this question is a challenge. But it is a challenge posed by writers who live firmly in the religious tradition.

Book Description
Almost 50 million persons visit another continent each year. It is mainly those 15-18 million travelers from industrialized nations who visit or reside in developing countries that are at increased health risk. To develop effective health protection advice, the health risks of travel and the benefits of prophylaxis (vaccines, new and old drugs, behaviour modification, etc.) should be assessed systematically. The purpose of this book is to improve the protection of the travelers' health by more effective and more uniform recommendations. It contains many data on recent research and represents the first comprehensive account on travel medicine for professionals.

Prepare yourslef for discoveries and new adventures with this incredible book about the true origin of wanderlust. This edition forms a complete history of the earliest start and progress of navigation, discovery, and commerce, by sea and land, from the earliest ages to the early 19th century. First part of the work covers voyages and travels of discovery in the middle ages; from the era of Alfred, King of England, in the ninth century to that of Don Henry of Portugal at the commencement of the fourteenth century. Second part deals with general voyages and travels chiefly of discovery; from the era of Don Henry, in 1412, to that of George III. in 1760. The rest of the work has some particular voyages and travels arranged in systematic order, Geographical and Chronological, and studies voyages during the era of George III conducted upon scientific principles, by which the Geography of the globe has been nearly perfected.
