Badeker in 1907 observed that some materials are optically transparent in the visible light and electrically conducting [1]. Because of the increasing interest in electrically and electronically active materials, the search for materials and the techniques for producing semi-transparent electrically conducting films have gained much importance. In an intrinsic stoichiometric material, it is not possible to have simultaneously high transparency (>80%%) in the visible region and high electrical conductivity (>103 Ω cm-1). Book Description
The world of today must face up to two contradictory energy problems: on the one hand, there is the sharply growing consumer demand in countries such as China and India. On the other hand, natural resources are dwindling. Moreover, many of those countries which still possess substantial gas and oil supplies are politically unstable. As a result, renewable natural energy sources have received great attention. Among these, solar-cell technology is one of the most promising candidates. However, there still remains the problem of the manufacturing costs of such cells. Many attempts have been made to reduce the production costs of “conventional” solar cells (manufactured from monocrystalline silicon using diffusion methods) by instead using cheaper grades of silicon, and simpler pn-junction fabrication. That is the ‘hero’ of this book; the heterojunction solar cell.

Book Description
Thin transparent and electrically conductive films of tin doped indium oxide (ITO) were made by sintering of nanoparticle dispersions. The resistivity decreased to 1 - 10(exp -2) Omega cm upon treatment at 800 deg C, while the luminous transmittance remained high. The property evolution was connected with sintering and densification as studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray Diffraction, X-ray Fluorescence and Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis.

Book Description
The book represents a thorough study of Tin oxide doped Fluorine SnO2: F as an alternative to the well known member of transparent conductive oxide TCO family, Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) as it has some restrictions. The TCO family has a unique property of high transmission to visible light, high reflection to infrared with wavelength greater than 2 mico m. and conductive to electricity like a metal. Based on that, it has wide application in optoelectronic solar energy generation and saving devices.

Book Description
Transparent conducting materials are key elements in a wide variety of current technologies including flat panel displays, photovoltaics, organic, low-e windows and electrochromics. The needs for new and improved materials is pressing, because the existing materials do not have the performance levels to meet the ever- increasing demand, and because some of the current materials used may not be viable in the future. In addition, the field of transparent conductors has gone through dramatic changes in the last 5-7 years with new materials being identified, new applications and new people in the field. “Handbook of Transparent Conductors” presents transparent conductors in a historical perspective, provides current applications as well as insights into the future of the devices. It is a comprehensive reference, and represents the most current resource on the subject.

Book Description
Transparent conducting oxide thin films doped with transition metals have attracted intense research interest following theoretical predictions of possible room temperature ferromagnetism in these films. This monograph details the growth, characterization and thermopower studies of room temperature ferromagnetic Mn doped indium oxide and indium tin oxide thin films grown by dc reactive sputtering and the influence of annealing on the properties of the films. Details of the experimental setups for measurement of thermopower using integral and differential methods and the fabrication and performance studies of transparent thin film thermocouples also form content of this monograph.
