Book Description
The orthogonality of functions has been exploited in communications since its very beginning. Conscious and 1 extensive use was made of it by KOTEL NIKOV in theoretical work in 1947. Ten years later a considerable number of people were working in this field rather independently. However, little experimental use could be made of the theo retical results before the arrival of solid state opera tional amplifiers and integrated circuits. A theory of communication based on orthogonal functions could ·have been published many years ago. However, the only useful examples of orthogonal functions at that time were sine .... cosine functions and block pulses, and this made the theory appear to be a complicated way to derive known re sults. It was again the advance of semiconductor techno logy that produced the first really new, useful example of orthogonal functions: the little-known Walsh functions. In this book emphasis is placed on the Walsh functions, since ample literature is available on sine-cosine func tions as well as on block pulses and pulses derived from them.

Duration and Bandwidth Limiting
Author: Jeffrey A. Hogan
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0817683070
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 273
Book Description
Increasingly important in the field of communications, the study of time and band limiting is crucial for the modeling and analysis of multiband signals. This concise but comprehensive monograph is the first to be devoted specifically to this subdiscipline, providing a thorough investigation of its theory and applications. Through cutting-edge numerical methods, it develops the tools for applications not only to communications engineering, but also to optical engineering, geosciences, planetary sciences, and biomedicine. With broad coverage and a careful balance between rigor and readability, Duration and Bandwidth Limiting is a particularly original and valuable resource both for mathematicians interested in the field and for professional engineers with an interest in theory. While its main target audience is practicing scientists, the book may also serve as useful supplemental reading material for mathematically-based graduate courses in communications and signal processing.

Publisher: SIAM
ISBN: 9781611971767
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
Designed for classroom use, this book contains short, self-contained mathematical models of problems in the physical, mathematical, and biological sciences first published in the Classroom Notes section of the SIAM Review from 1975-1985. The problems provide an ideal way to make complex subject matter more accessible to the student through the use of concrete applications. Each section has extensive supplementary references provided by the editor from his years of experience with mathematical modelling.

TCP Performance over UMTS-HSDPA Systems
Author: Mohamad Assaad
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1420013327
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 232
Book Description
The evolution of the mobile communication market is causing a major increase in data traffic demands. This could lead to disrupted mobility and intermittent degraded channel conditions that contribute to poor transmission control protocol (TCP) performance.
