Book Description
The Eleventh Symposium on Advances in Tracer Method ology was held in Boston on October 13-14, 1966. The sym posium, which was sponsored by the New England Nuclear Corporation, commemorated the tenth anniversary of the Corporation. The Symposia on Advances in Tracer Methodology, which have been held regularly since 1957, bring together research workers in a variety of disciplines who share an interest in radioactive tracers. The four volumes, this one representing the record of the Eleventh Symposium, provide a compact and readily available source of information-much of which was usually scattered throughout the scientific literature-of inter est to biochemists, pharmacologists, endocrinologists, and analysts for whom tracers have become an indispensable tool. The editor is especially grateful to Dr. Konrad Bloch, Harvard University, and Dr. Waldo E. Cohn, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, for chairing the sessions at the Eleventh Sym posium. The cooperation of the speakers is deeply appreCiated. In addition, a special bouquet to my secretary, Mrs. Edith Thompson, for her generous assistance in arranging the various symposia and the publication of the papers. S. R.

Tracer Technology
Author: Octave Levenspiel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1441980741
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 153
Book Description
The tracer method was first introduced to measure the actual flow of fluid in a vessel, and then to develop a suitable model to represent this flow. Such models are used to follow the flow of fluid in chemical reactors and other process units, in rivers and streams, and through soils and porous structures. Also, in medicine they are used to study the flow of chemicals, harmful or not, in the blood streams of animals and man. Tracer Technology, written by Octave Levenspiel, shows how we use tracers to follow the flow of fluids and then we develop a variety of models to represent these flows. This activity is called tracer technology.

Radioactive Tracers in Biology
Author: Martin D. Kamen
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483274470
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 444
Book Description
Radioactive Tracers in Biology: An Introduction to Trace Methodology, Second Edition focuses on the biochemical and physiological aspects of tracer research, including medical applications of tracer techniques, radioactivity, radiation hazards, and radioactive isotopes. The book first offers information on atomic nuclei, radioactivity, and the production of radioactive isotopes and radiation characteristics of tracer atoms. Discussions focus on nuclear reactions, neutron-induced and deuteron-induced transmutations, properties of atomic nuclei, and target techniques and radiochemistry. The manuscript also ponders on the procedures for radioactive assay and radiation hazards. The text examines the biochemical, medical, and physiological applications of tracer methodology. The manuscript also takes a look at radioactive hydrogen, short-lived and long-lived radioactive carbon, radioactive phosphorus and sulfur, and alkali metal and alkaline earth tracers. Topics include synthesis of organic intermediates for tracer carbon studies; biosynthesis of labeled carbon compounds; and general survey of alkali metal tracers. The publication is a dependable reference for readers interested in radioactive tracers.

Publisher: Joint Commission Resources
ISBN: 1599406098
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 169
Book Description
Tracer methodology is the cornerstone of The Joint Commission on-site accreditation survey process. So what's the best way for health care professionals to learn about tracers? Practice. The Medication Management Tracer Workbook will help health care organizations use mock (practice) tracers to identify unrecognized medication management compliance and patient safety issues and implement changes as part of an ongoing improvement process--before a survey takes place. This easy-to-follow practical tool offers a wealth of sample tracers, called scenarios. These address medication management issues in all domestic and international program settings: hospital and critical access hospital, ambulatory care, behavioral health care, home care, and long term care. Not only will the workbook help familiarize staff with all aspects of tracers, it will also serve as a resource and training tool for conducting mock tracers in any health care organization. Special Features: A 10-step tutorial on how to conduct mock tracers Sample tracer questions keyed to the tracer scenarios Worksheet template to help users develop their own mock tracers Examples of completed mock tracer worksheets Appendixes listing medication management standards and NPSG goals
