Alice Guy BlachT (1873-1968), the world's first woman filmmaker, was one of the key figures in the development of narrative film. From 1896 to 1920 she directed 400 films (including over 100 synchronized sound films), produced hundreds more, and was the first--and so far the only--woman to own and run her own studio plant (The Solax Studio in Fort Lee, NJ, 1910-1914). However, her role in film history was completely forgotten until her own memoirs were published in 1976. This new book tells her life story and fills in many gaps left by the memoirs. Guy BlachT's life and career mirrored momentous changes in the film industry, and the long time-span and sheer volume of her output makes her films a fertile territory for the application of new theories of cinema history, the development of film narrative, and feminist film theory. The book provides a close analysis of the one hundred Guy BlachT films that survive, and in the process rewrites early cinema history.

The title of this work illustrates the two difficulties which the chosen theme poses, difficulties which arise from the confrontation between collective & individual interests. On the one hand, the criminal process is based on the protection of society; on the other hand, human rights implies respect for all individuals implicated in that process, be they victim, witness or accused. On 17 December 2009, the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice of the Council of Europe adopted the Guidelines for a better implementation of the existing recommendation of the Council of Europe on enforcement. These principles aim to guarantee to all the access to an enforcement agent and a quality enforcement in the respect of the fundamental rights of the litigants. In the first part of the book, reference is made to the genesis of the CEPEJ Guidelines on Enforcement as well as to its state of application in the various Council of Europe Member States. The second part of the book deals with the problem of the evolution of technologies and aims to question how artificial intelligence can be put at the service of enforcement. In this respect, the analysis focuses on the importance of both electronic access to information and access to dematerialised information, to highlight the imperative need for a procedure for seizure of dematerialised assets and to consider drafting the a crypto-currency attachment procedure. *** Le 17 décembre 2009, la Commission européenne pour l’efficacité de la justice du Conseil de l’Europe a adopté des Lignes directrices pour une meilleure mise en œuvre de la recommandation existante du Conseil de l’Europe sur l’exécution.
