Filtering in the Time and Frequency Domains
Author: Herman J. Blinchikoff
Publisher: SciTech Publishing
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 528
Book Description
In Chapter 1, using the differential equation as the fundamental system description, we show how to obtain the filtering functions associated with physical systems; namely, the impulse response, step response, weighting function, and convolution integral. Chapter 2 introduces the Fourier and Laplace transforms, which lead to the frequency-domain system descriptions including the transfer function, magnitude response, phase response, and group-delay response. An introduction to the Hilbert transform, which is useful for relating specific network functions. In chapter 3 theoretical and realizable lowpass responses, including limitations in the time and frequency domains, are discussed. In Chapter 4 we concentrate on the transformation of the normalized lowpass prototype into other filter types. The narrowband and bandpass filter is discussed in detail because its analysis is applicable to crystal, helical, coaxial cavity, stripline, interdigital, and waveguide filters. In chapter 5 we consider the all-pass function, a function that is useful for phase and group delay equalization and for the simulation of specified delay. In chapter 6 we discuss the finite Q elements and predistortion. In chapter 7 we switch the focus from classical filter treatment to a consideration of the filtering of signals in a noisy environment, in particular, the matched filter. In chapter 8 we discuss the two methods of time-domain synthesis, the quasi-stationary approach to the analysis of linear systems excited by modulated inputs, and the subject of average time delay. Chapter 9 is devoted to digital filtering and includes a discussion of the z-transform

A Digital Filter for Separating High- and Lowfrequency Components of a Transiet Signal
Author: Thomas L. Geers

Languages : en
Pages : 39
Book Description
A filter is described which separates a transient signal into high- and low-frequency portions and introduces no phase shifts or amplitude changes in either portion. A program written in FORTRAN for an IBM 7090 computer which will filter a sampled time-history record is presented. Simple formulas are given for estimating errors in the filter that are due to sampling and truncation of the continuous record. Application of the filter to signals produced by two or more physical sources is discussed. (Author).

Wavelet Methods In Mathematical Analysis And Engineering
Author: Alain Damlamian
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814464058
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 190
Book Description
This book gives a comprehensive overview of both the fundamentals of wavelet analysis and related tools, and of the most active recent developments towards applications. It offers a state-of-the-art in several active areas of research where wavelet ideas, or more generally multiresolution ideas have proved particularly effective. The main applications covered are in the numerical analysis of PDEs, and signal and image processing. Recently introduced techniques such as Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and new trends in the recovery of missing data, such as compressed sensing, are also presented. Applications range for the reconstruction of noisy or blurred images, pattern and face recognition, to nonlinear approximation in strongly anisotropic contexts, and to the classification tools based on multifractal analysis.
