Book Description
This book explores topics at the interface between mechanical and chemical engineering, with a focus on design, simulation, and manufacturing. Covering recent developments in the mechanics of solids and structures; numerical simulation of coupled problems, including wearing, compression, detonation and collision; and chemical process technologies, including ultrasonic technology, capillary rising process, pneumatic classification, membrane electrolysis and absorption processes, it reports on developments in the field of heat and mass transfer, energy-efficient technologies, and industrial ecology. Part of a two-volume set based on the 3rd International Conference on Design, Simulation, Manufacturing: The Innovation Exchange (DSMIE-2020), held on June 9-12, 2020, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, this book provides academics and professionals with extensive information on the latest trends, technologies and challenges in the field as well as practical lessons learned.

Book Description
On March 14-18, 1983 a workshop on "Chemical Instabilities: Applications in Chemistry, Engineering, Geology, and Materials Science" was held in Austin, Texas, U.S.A. It was organized jointly by the University of Texas at Austin and the Universite Libre de Bruxelles and sponsored qy NATO, NSF, the University of Texas at Austin, the International Solvay Institutes and the Ex xon Corporation. The present Volume includes most of the material of the in vited lectures delivered in the workshop as well as material from some posters, whose content was directly related to the themes of the invited lectures. In ,recent years, problems related to the stability and the nonlinear dynamics of nonequilibrium systems invaded a great num ber of fields ranging from abstract mathematics to biology. One of the most striking aspects of this development is that subjects reputed to be "classical" and "well-established" like chemistry, turned out to give rise to a rich variety of phenomena leading to multiple steady states and hysteresis, oscillatory behavior in time, spatial patterns, or propagating wave fronts. The primary objective of the workshop was to bring together researchers actively engaged in fields in which instabilities and nonlinear phenomena similar to those observed in chemistry are of current and primary concern : chemical engineering (especially surface catalysis), combustion (dynamics of ignition, flame sta bili t;y), interfaces (emulsification, dendritic growth), geology (regularly repeated patterns of mineralization 1n a variety of spabe scales), and materials science (dynamical solidification, behavior of matter under irradiation).

Book Description
Thermal Analysis Fundamentals and Applications to Polymer Science T. Hatakeyama Otsuma Women's University, Tokyo, Japan F. X. Quinn L'Oréal Recherche Advancée, Aulnay-sous-Bois, France The first edition of this classic book remains one of the very few introductory books covering both theoretical and practical aspects of thermal analysis (TA). This new edition includes a much enlarged section on MDSC, in which the instrument is described and a critical appraisal of the technique presented. Other additions include new sections on rate-controlled TGA, OTTER, and Specific Heat Spectroscopy, and a thoroughly updated section on X-Ray DSC. This very practical book is a must for people who use thermal analysis techniques in their everyday work. "An excellent introductory text" - Review of 1st Edition.
