Book Description
Most countries having dry and semi dry climate face distilled water shortage. By the same token, desalination of sea water quickly changed into a big source of desalinated water in many areas around the world. Desalination process is a process for purifying sea water for drinking consumption. Desalination process leads to refining salty water and removing salt and minerals from the water. The present study is an attempt to conduct a thermodynamic analysis of MED desalination distillation and its current types (including parallel feed water, forward feed water, backward feed water) to evaluate the effect of some input parameters such as motive steam temperature, concentration, and input water temperature on the efficiency of some output parameters on a desalination system such as GOR, heat loss through waste water, specific heat, and the amount of produced distilled water have been evaluated.

Book Description
Distillation Principles and Practice Second Edition covers all the main aspects of distillation including the thermodynamics of vapor/liquid equilibrium, the principles of distillation, the synthesis of distillation processes, the design of the equipment, and the control of process operation. Most textbooks deal in detail with the principles and laws of distilling binary mixtures. When it comes to multi-component mixtures, they refer to computer software nowadays available. One of the special features of the second edition is a clear and easy understandable presentation of the principles and laws of ternary distillation. The right understanding of ternary distillation is the link to a better understanding of multi-component distillation. Ternary distillation is the basis for a conceptual process design, for separating azeotropic mixtures by using an entrainer, and for reactive distillation, which is a rapidly developing field of distillation. Another special feature of the book is the design of distillation equipment, i.e. tray columns and packed columns. In practice, empirical know-how is preferably used in many companies, often in form of empirical equations, which are not even dimensionally correct. The objective of the proposed book is the derivation of the relevant equations for column design based on first principles. The field of column design is permanently developing with respect to the type of equipment used and the know-how of two-phase flow and interfacial mass transfer.

Book Description
This chapter starts with the analysis of the distillation path of binary mixtures on the general phase behavior P–T diagram of binary mixtures. The univariant lines of these diagrams limit the region of vapor–liquid equilibria where binary distillation can be applied. On this basis, the conditions under which distillation is possible for types I, II, IV, and V of binary mixtures are discussed. Furthermore, in this chapter, the principles of fractional distillation, as well as the computational procedures, are discussed. The thermodynamic modeling of a train of distillation columns to separate the components of an ethane-cracked gas mixture is used to develop a strategy for an equation of state parameter tuning. This strategy is based on the analysis of the distillation column phase equilibrium sensitivity and leads to an unique matrix of equation of state dominant binary parameters for the whole fractionation train. The chapter ends with a list of phase equilibrium engineering guidelines to make a realistic design/simulation of distillation columns.

Book Description
Natural phenomena consist of simultaneously occurring transport processes and chemical reactions. These processes may interact with each other and lead to instabilities, fluctuations, and evolutionary systems. This book explores the unifying role of thermodynamics in natural phenomena. Nonequilibrium Thermodynamics, Second Edition analyzes the transport processes of energy, mass, and momentum transfer processes, as well as chemical reactions. It considers various processes occurring simultaneously, and provides students with more realistic analysis and modeling by accounting possible interactions between them. This second edition updates and expands on the first edition by focusing on the balance equations of mass, momentum, energy, and entropy together with the Gibbs equation for coupled processes of physical, chemical, and biological systems. Every chapter contains examples and practical problems to be solved. This book will be effective in senior and graduate education in chemical, mechanical, systems, biomedical, tissue, biological, and biological systems engineering, as well as physical, biophysical, biological, chemical, and biochemical sciences. - Will help readers in understanding and modelling some of the coupled and complex systems, such as coupled transport and chemical reaction cycles in biological systems - Presents a unified approach for interacting processes - combines analysis of transport and rate processes - Introduces the theory of nonequilibrium thermodynamics and its use in simultaneously occurring transport processes and chemical reactions of physical, chemical, and biological systems - A useful text for students taking advanced thermodynamics courses
