Book Description
In 1954, Antonio Marussi started a series of symposia in Venice. The first three of these covered the entire theoretical definition of 3-D geodesy as delineated in discussions with renowned contemporary scientists, particularly Martin Hotine. After Marussi's death, the symposia were finally named the Hotine-Marussi Symposia and were continued in Italy. The Third Hotine-Marussi Symposium was held in L'Aquila from May 30 to June 3, 1994. It provided geodesists interested in theory and methodology with the opportunity to discuss their theoretical achievements, as well as new topics in the geodetic sciences. This book thus provides an updated overview of the main geodetic theories in various fields of application.

Book Description
Geophysics and Geochemistry is a component of Encyclopedia of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. Geophysics and Geochemistry are two closely intertwined and collaborating branches of Earth’s sciences. The content of the Theme on Geophysics and Geochemistry is organized with state-of-the-art presentations covering eight main topics: Foundations of Geophysics and Geochemistry; Geophysical Systems; Seismology and Volcanology; Geomagnetism and Geoelectricity; Aeronomy and Magnetosphere; Gravimetry; Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry; Planetology – Comparative Planetology of Earth-like Planets and Astrobiology which are then expanded into multiple subtopics, each as a chapter. These three volumes are aimed at the following a wide spectrum of audiences from the merely curious to those seeking in-depth knowledge: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.

Book Description
This book presents a comprehensive analysis of diverse aspects of geohazards. The growing vulnerability and exposure to failures in risk reduction and policy-making increases the severity of geohazard impacts by many folds. Therefore, detailed geohazard analysis, modelling and forecasting are needed to reduce the impacts of extreme events. An interdisciplinary approach to hazard mitigation provides an advanced tool for risk reduction. The book thus summarizes recent modelling and analysis techniques for hazard assessment and risk mitigation. Topics discussed in the book are hazard and risk associated with earthquakes, vulnerability assessment for landslides and avalanches, the assessment of tsunami risk in coastal regions, the implementation of early warning systems to prevent catastrophic consequences, climate change risk modelling and risk communication. The convergent approach with the aspects of natural, engineering, and social sciences attracts a vast audience working to advance disaster science. This book also significantly facilitates the acquisition of policy-relevant knowledge for risk reduction, which is beneficial to the general public.
