Book Description
Excerpt from The Zoologist, 1897, Vol. 1: A Monthly Journal of Natural History IT is an old remark that every book has many authors; it is one that is exceedingly applicable to 'the Zoologist, ' and we congratulate our contributors on the volume they have produced for 1897. Our pages in the record of observations may be said to exhibit the essence of cc-operation, for our contributors do not only write about animals, but absolutely seem to live and work with them. This is the aim and ideal of The Zoologist.' We do not propose to merely interpret, but really to reveal the secrets and the polity of the animal life that is around us. Book Description
Excerpt from The Zoologist, 1898, Vol. 2: A Monthly Journal of Natural History A preface to the yearly volume of The Zoologist pertains to an annual stock-taking, for it must be judged largely by our contributors' additions to zoological knowledge. The Mammalia have received special attention. The paper by Prof. J. C. Ewart on zebra-horse Hybrids may prove to be of an epoch-making nature both in Africa and India. The Indian fauna has again asserted its interest, while Mr. Oldfield Thomas has proposed a canon of nomenclature for British mammals. On the species of our own fauna many valuable notes have appeared. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Treatise on Zoology - Anatomy, Taxonomy, Biology. The Myriapoda, Volume 2
Author: Alessandro Minelli
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004188274
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 508
Book Description
Myriapods are the only major zoological group for which a modern encyclopedic treatment has never been produced. In particular, this was the single major gap in the largest zoological treatise of the XIX century (Grassé’s Traité de Zoologie), whose publication has recently been stopped. The two volumes of “The Myriapoda” fill that gap with an updated treatment in the English language. Volume II deals with the Diplopoda or millipedes. As in the previous volume, the treatment is articulated in chapters dealing with external and internal morphology, physiology, reproduction, development, distribution, ecology, phylogeny and taxonomy. All currently recognized suprageneric taxa and a very large selection of the genera are considered. All groups and features are extensively illustrated by line drawings and micrographs and living specimens of representative species of the main groups are presented in color photographs.
