Book Description
Excerpt from The Works of Mr. George Buchanan, in the Scottish Language: Containing the Chamaeleon, a Satire Against the Laird of Lidingtone, and an Admonition to the True Lords, Maintainers of Justice, and Obedience to the King's Grace Queen Mary. A man of singularly rare abilities, but great versality of character. He was taken prisoner with Sir William Kirkcaldy of Grange, who surrendered the castle of Edinburgh to the English forces, on the 29th of May 1573. Which capitulation was basely evaded by the regent, the Earl of Morton; and Sir \'villiam, with several of his adherents, were executed on the third of August the same year. The secretary, to avoid a similiar fate, put an end to his life at Leith, and died on the third of September, or as Sir James Melvile has it, died in the old Roman manner, to avoid the shambles. Others, however, say, he was poisoned by the Earl of Morton.w. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
