Book Description
An essential American novel from Sandra Dallas, an unparalleled writer of our history, and our deepest emotions... During World War II, a family finds life turned upside down when the government opens a Japanese internment camp in their small Colorado town. After a young girl is murdered, all eyes (and suspicions) turn to the newcomers, the interlopers, the strangers. This is Tallgrass as Rennie Stroud has never seen it before. She has just turned thirteen and, until this time, life has pretty much been what her father told her it should be: predictable and fair. But now the winds of change are coming and, with them, a shift in her perspective. And Rennie will discover secrets that can destroy even the most sacred things. Part thriller, part historical novel, Tallgrass is a riveting exploration of the darkest--and best--parts of the human heart.

Book Description
Grassfires: Fuel, Weather and Fire Behaviour presents information from CSIRO on the behaviour and spread of fires in grasslands. This second edition follows over 10 years of research aimed at improving the understanding of the fundamental processes involved in the behaviour of grassfires. The book covers all aspects of fire behaviour and spread in the major types of grasses in Australia. It examines the factors that affect fire behaviour in continuous grassy fuels; fire in spinifex fuels; the effect of weather and topography on fire spread; wildfire suppression strategies; and how to reconstruct grassfire spread after the fact. The three meters designed by CSIRO for the prediction of fire danger and rate of spread of grassfires are explained and their use and limitations discussed. This new edition expands the discussion of historical fires including Aboriginal burning practices, the chemistry of combustion, and the structure of turbulent diffusion flames. It also examines fire safety, including the difficulty of predicting wind strength and direction and the impact of threshold wind speed on safe fire suppression. Myths and fallacies about fire behaviour are explained in relation to their impact on personal safety and survival. Grassfires will be a valuable reference for rural fire brigade members, landholders, fire authorities, researchers and those studying landscape and ecological processes.

Book Description
As war overtakes the frontier, Emma’s family farmstead is attacked by Dakota-Sioux warriors; on that same prairie, Oenikika desperately tries to hold on to her calling as a healer and follow the orders of her father, Chief Little Crow. When the war is over and revenge-fueled war trials begin, each young woman is faced with an impossible choice. In a swiftly changing world, both Emma and Oenikika must look deep within and fight for the truth of their convictions—even as horror and injustice unfolds all around them. Inspired by the true story of the thirty-eight Dakota-Sioux men hanged in Minnesota in 1862—the largest mass execution in US history—Dovetails in Tall Grass is a powerful tale of two young women connected by the fate of one man.

Book Description
A “gripping” sci-fi fantasy, “distinctive characterizations remain complex and depictions of both [planet] worlds are exceptional. A welcome follow-up” (Booklist). From the Endeavor Award–winning author of The Silver Ship and the Sea The colony planet of Fremont was supposed to be free of all genetically altered beings—a new home for a pure race. So when six genetically altered children were abandoned on Fremont, they found themselves unwelcome and vowed to get off the planet by any means necessary. Joseph and the others managed to escape, although Joseph finds their new home hostile, frightening, and deeply challenging. Chelo is left behind with her new-found love, Liam, and her best friend, the troubled Kayleen. Both sets of teens must contend with hostile adults, daunting environments, and unexpected challenges. And when Chelo’s very life is threatened, Joseph must find a way to save her. Praise for The Silver Ship and the Sea: “An engrossing tale of six young outsiders growing up on a colony planet . . . This is an adventure story . . . But it is also a story about the relationships between insiders and outsiders . . . between people who need each other in order to survive.” —School Library Journal “Fast-paced and full-bodied, The Silver Ship and the Sea is character-driven hard SF at its best.” —The Seattle Times

Book Description
I decided to put this book together so that my family might know some of their rich heritage. The events in this book are all true. I really don't know the time sequence of the events, but they all took place between 1910 and 1916. Gramps daughter Ada, my mother-in-law, told me some of these stories, but most of them came from Gramps. As you read the book, keep in mind that they didn't have the conveniences of our day such as electricity, radio, TV, washing machines, motor vehicles, etc., at least not on their farm. I hope you will be blessed by this book of remembrances.
