The common feature of many present-day “new realisms” is a general diagnosis according to which, with Kant, Western philosophy lost any contact with the outside world. In The Untruth of Reality, Jure Simoniti, in contrast, points out the necessary realist side of modern philosophy, arguing that the possibility of realism has always been there. The epistemological self-inauguration of the subject goes hand in hand with his anthropological dethronement, the god-like centrality of the “ego” is constantly counterbalanced with his creatural marginality, the activity of the constitutive subject is juxtaposed with the growing indifference of the world, and the linguistic appropriation of the world simultaneously performs operations of the de-symbolization of reality. However, with these precarious equilibria, the conditions of possibility of realism have become more complex and intricate. It is therefore the goal of this book to demonstrate how the paradigms of consciousness and language are not necessarily incompatible with realism, but rather open new and broader possibilities for the world behind and beyond consciousness and language to disclose itself. The Poetics of Naming is a fascinating blend of postmodern philosophy and mysticism that challenges our conventional view of language. It begins with the narrator’s discussion of a multi-faceted identity based on his name(s). Because this identity is multi-lingual and multi-national, its layering of the self leads to a confrontation with language. The narrator asks what is the relationship between language and truth? The formative power of language is great, but what happens when we become "languageless?" The book becomes an expression of a mystical experience the narrator calls "poesis" in which he stepped outside of language. Expressing this experience of languagelessness through language is the paradox at the core of the book. To achieve a simulation of languageless reality, the author uses a variety of linguistic techniques that uproot meanings, break-up words, and reconstruct terms in novel ways. Through deconstruction the metaphoric structure of language is revealed. This metaphoric structure is itself approached metaphorically so that the reader begins to sense the trap of a linguistic universe from which there is no escape. The book is a literary exercise that simulates the author’s poesis experience for the reader. Eventually the flood of words on the page begins to go out of focus and dissolve as the reader approaches languagelessness. The Poetics of Naming is not for the faint of heart. It challenges its readers to move away from the comfortable universe of ordinary language and its meanings and enter a world where the boundaries crumble like digital illusions and limitlessness appears on the horizon of consciousness. Poesis is frightening, frustrating and liberating.

Constructivism has been traded as a new paradigm by its advocates, and criticised by its opponents as legitimating deceit and lies, as justifying a trendy post-modern "Anything goes". In this book, Bernhard Poerksen draws up a new rationale for constructivist thinking and charts out directions for the imaginative examination of personal certainties and the certainties of others, of ideologies great and small. The focus of the debate is on the author's thesis that our understanding of journalism and, in particular, the education and training of journalists, would profit substantially from constructivist insights. These insights instigate, the claim is, an original kind of scepticism; they provide the underpinnings of a modern type of didactics oriented by the autonomy of learners; and they supply the sustaining arguments for a radical ethic of responsibility in journalism.
