The Seven Military Classics Of Ancient China
Author: Ralph D. Sawyer
Publisher: Hachette UK
ISBN: 1541674294
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 488
Book Description
The Seven Military Classics is one of the most profound studies of warfare ever written, a stanchion in sinological and military history. It presents an Eastern tradition of strategic thought that emphasizes outwitting one's opponent through speed, stealth, flexibility, and a minimum of force -- an approach very different from that stressed in the West. Safeguarded for centuries by the ruling elite of imperial China, even in modern times these writings have been known only to a handful of Western specialists. This volume contains seven separate essays, written between 500 BCE and 700 CE, that preserve the essential tenets of strategy distilled from the experience of the most brilliant warriors of ancient China.

Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1036411648
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en

It is a unique book and an essential guide for every executive, CEO and manager who wants to successfully lead their company in the 21st century. Every university professor of economics, management, strategy or decision making must read it, apply it and teach it to their students: only this way will we save companies from being directed by those who only know about conflicts and competition. In the words of the Secretary General of the OAS (2023), facing the present and the future “we can cooperate, or die.” This book represents a valuable resource for students, academics (teachers and researchers) and professionals in the field of strategy, decision making and management in general. Understanding Non-State Actors
Author: Eran Zohar
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3111065553
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 436
Book Description
Understanding Non-State Actors aims to reduce the scarcity of academic literature on armed non-state actors (NSAs) that have always been a part of world politics and wars. This monograph offers, possibly for the first time, a systematic historical review as well as a substantive theory of NSAs and their arming efforts. From the Jewish rebellions against Rome to the war between the Ukrainian separatists and the Ukrainian government, NSAs’ weapons acquisition has been vital for the build-up of their force, enabling both the employment of that force and its sustainability. While weapons are not necessarily the most important factor in military build-up, NSAs need weapons to fight, and revolts usually erupt after the organizers have acquired a certain number of weapons. Conversely, many revolts lose momentum and operations are not carried out, or turn ineffective, due to shortages of arms and ammunition. A major theme of this monograph is that in spite of dramatic political and technological changes, armed NSAs in different periods have employed similar methods to acquire weapons. Self-production, looting and stealing, external support, and the arms trade were always the major ways for NSAs to acquire weapons, though the importance of each method and the type of arms has changed remarkably over time. Understanding Non-State Actors discusses the factors – political, social, cultural, technological, and organizational – that have both facilitated and constrained the ability of NSAs to acquire arms. Especially, lecturers and students of Military, Terrorism, Conflict studies, War and peace studies will benefit from this study.
