Book Description
Reestablishing the balance of power between the States who conceived, articulated, and fought for the Republic – almost stopping its formation more than once due to concerns with federal power – is not easy given the structural corruption deeply imbedded in Congress and the Washington, D.C. culture, but it can and must be done. Mark Levin has identified the “clarifications” necessary in our Constitution that must be implemented via a Convention of States, but that will not fix the problem within – at least not in time. This book is a detailed, step by step strategy that can achieve this from within. In addition, the book provides specific answers to those who will object – and do so loudly. It also provides some keen insights into the D.C. culture with information few Americans know. There are preconditions to this Revolution that are essential, achievable, and identified here. Many can begin now, well before the 2016 election, but they must begin and we must have the commitment from enough States (26) to get these stepping stones set so that a new authentic constitutionally conservative President and a ‘friendly’ Congress can achieve them in just five years. It became clear at the RNC Platform Committee in 2012 that we needed something new, a very specific plan – an informed strategy, not just more speeches, not just more of the same general rhetoric we have all heard for decades. You have to do the hard work, and that doesn’t come from behind a podium. The reforms outlined in this book will achieve the rebalance and again form an even more perfect union with States in control and the federal system again limited as prescribed in the Constitution. This is an historic time, a new political time and space that will determine if America, as constructed by the States, will again prevail.

Book Description
"The majority of Americans don't believe in the system anymore. We don't think the politicians really care about us. We don't perceive any difference between the two parties. We don't think the government acts in our best interests. We are disenchanted, fed up, and angry." "The press doesn't write about this frustration: It's not a story because everyone accepts it as a given. But in fact this is a massive opinion shift that has gone unnoticed, unreported, and unresolved. We are in the midst of the Second American Revolution - and nobody is talking about it." "This book not only recognizes this reality; it responds to it, and gives it expression. And it harnesses the people's frustration and rage into positive energy. The message is clear: "We can make the system work. We can fix America. Just let us be heard."" "James Patterson and Peter Kim, heads of major advertising agencies, found a way to combine the spirit of 1776 with the technology of the twenty-first century. Using advanced market-research methods, they located a typical American town, put several issues to debate in a town hall setting, and talked with thousands of Americans across the nation to determine what the people say needs to be done to solve the country's most pressing problems. Most important, Patterson and Kim conducted the most democratic referendum ever held in the country to determine the people's choice for president of the United States." "This book is a clarion call, a shot to be heard 'round the land. It articulates loudly and clearly - and for the first time - the true voice of the people. No politics, no hype, no bull."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Book Description
James McPherson has emerged as one of America's finest historians. Battle Cry of Freedom, his Pulitzer Prize-winning account of the Civil War, was a national bestseller that Hugh Brogan, in The New York Times Book Review, called "history writing of the highest order." In that volume, McPherson gathered in the broad sweep of events, the political, social, and cultural forces at work during the Civil War era. Now, in Abraham Lincoln and the Second American Revolution, he offers a series of thoughtful and engaging essays on aspects of Lincoln and the war that have rarely been discussed in depth. McPherson again displays his keen insight and sterling prose as he examines several critical themes in American history. He looks closely at the President's role as Commander-in-Chief of the Union forces, showing how Lincoln forged a national military strategy for victory. He explores the importance of Lincoln's great rhetorical skills, uncovering how--through parables and figurative language--he was uniquely able to communicate both the purpose of the war and a new meaning of liberty to the people of the North. In another section, McPherson examines the Civil War as a Second American Revolution, describing how the Republican Congress elected in 1860 passed an astonishing blitz of new laws (rivaling the first hundred days of the New Deal), and how the war not only destroyed the social structure of the old South, but radically altered the balance of power in America, ending 70 years of Southern power in the national government. The Civil War was the single most transforming and defining experience in American history, and Abraham Lincoln remains the most important figure in the pantheon of our mythology. These graceful essays, written by one of America's leading historians, offer fresh and unusual perspectives on both.

Book Description
Nicol Rae's engaging account of the Republican revolutionaries' freshman year in Congress persuasively demonstrates that the precepts set forth by Madison in Federalist 10 and 51 are still in force in our remarkably stable political system. The 73 Republican freshmen who entered the House of Representatives after the 1994 election were a well-organized group with majority status and a commitment to change. This book examines the extent to which they were successful in redirecting policy and reforming the institutions of representative government -- and the extent to which those same institutions moderated, and even frustrated, efforts to introduce radical, rapid -- indeed revolutionary -- change. Contrasts are drawn both with the role of the Republican freshmen in the Senate and with the power of the President as manifested in the 1995-96 budget battle. The book is based on interviews conducted by the author when he was an APSA Congressional Fellow in the offices of Rep. George P. Radanovich, president of the freshman Republican class, and Sen. Thad Cochran, chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.

Book Description
Markets, Planning and the Moral Economy examines the rise of the Progressive movement in the United States during the early decades of the 20th century, particularly the trend toward increased government intervention in the market system that culminated in the establishment of President RooseveltÕs New Deal programs. The authors consult writings from politicians, business leaders, and economists of the time, using a variety of historical perspectives to illuminate the conflicting viewpoints that arose as the country struggled to recover from the worst economic downturn in its history. This fascinating historical study explores the conflict between what the authors identify as two competing ideologies: the market economy, whose proponents advocated a hands-off approach and a trust in allowing the markets to adjust themselves, and the moral economy, whose supporters favored a system of government planning and stewardship designed to promote economic fairness. Presenting arguments from each side by public figures and intellectuals, this book offers the most thorough and complete analysis to date of the new economic discourse that arose during the Progressive movement and remains a vital component of our economic and political discussions today. Professors and students of economics, political science, public policy, and history will all find much to admire in this fascinating and accessible volume. Scholars from across the world will also find this book helpful in contemplating the long-term effects that the tension between the market economy and the moral economy can have on an individual countryÕs economic system.
