Managing VUCA Through Integrative Self-Management
Author: Sharda S. Nandram
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319522310
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
In this book, experts discuss whether volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) represent a challenge or a business opportunity. More intense debates on global climate change, increased turbulence in financial quarters, increased job insecurity and high levels of stress at the workplace are attracting attention in the context of organization behavior and entrepreneurship. Fear and confusion have become part and parcel of business, often undermining trust, cooperation and inspiration. As a response, a new way of organizing self-management has emerged. The book combines practical wisdom from East and West, to develop integrative self-management theory and practice; provides direction to support an integrative mind-set, integrative organization and integrative leadership; and presents VUCA as an opportunity and necessity for development and growth, rather than a threat.

The Theater of the Bauhaus
Author: Walter Gropius
Publisher: Wesleyan University Press
ISBN: 0819575410
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 110
Book Description
Few creative movements have been more influential than the Bauhaus, under the leadership of Walter Gropius. The art of the theater commanded special attention. The text in this volume is a loose collection of essays by Oskar Schlemmer, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and Farkas Molnár (who in an illustrated essay shares his vision of a total theatre space), with an introduction by Bauhaus leader Walter Gropius. Originally published in German in 1924, Die Bühne im Bauhaus was translated by A. S. Wensinger and published by Wesleyan in 1961. It was prepared with the full cooperation of Walter Gropius and his introduction was written specially for this edition. From Bauhaus experiments there emerged a new aesthetic of stage design and presentation, a new concept of "total theater." Its principles and practices, revolutionary in their time and far in advance of all but the most experimental stagecraft today, were largely the work of Oskar Schlemmer, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and their students. Profusely illustrated and startling in its typography (the work of Moholy-Nagy), the 1924 volume quickly became a collector's item and is now virtually unobtainable. Those interested in the stage, the modern visual arts, or in the bold steps of the men of genius who broadened the horizons of aesthetic experience will appreciate that this translation is available again.

Spirituality and Business
Author: Sharda S. Nandram
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642026613
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 264
Book Description
We, Sharda and Margot, feel very honored to be able to write and edit such a book. Our spiritual journey has led to the passion of bringing together and sharing the thoughts we ourselves have come across in our lives by meeting gurus, swamis, like-minded seekers, managers, teachers, entrepreneurs, academics, students, and by reading books and practicing spiritual techniques. We also have gained much spiritual inspiration from the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother to whom we are grateful. The thoughts presented in this book already exist in the East and West. Integrating them into the way we do business, can help us to regain trust and respect in business even in the current economic crisis. We aim to convince others of our deep belief that spiritual practices and a spiritual orientation help make life more enjoyable and makes us better human beings through helping us to live in line with our karma in every context of life, in our roles as employees, entrepreneurs, managers, leaders, mothers, or fathers, etc.

Humanscale 1/2/3
Author: Niels Diffrient
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780999558812
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 32
Book Description
The Humanscale series is an important toolkit for everyone who designs for the human body. It incorporates the extensive amount of human engineering data compiled and organized by Henry Dreyfuss Associates throughout the twentieth century, including research of anthropologists, psychologists, scientists, human engineers, and medical experts.Originally published in 1974, Humanscale 1/2/3 consists of pictorial selectors equipped with rotary dials. This portfolio contains three selectors (two sides each) which present over 20,000 bits of information, encompassing anthropometry, guidelines for seating design, and requirements for the handicapped and elderly. Men, women, and children¿large and small¿¿are represented. Measurements are given in metric as well as English units.Engineers, architects, industrial designers, planners, interior and furniture designers, and craftsmen will find that the selectors minimize their searching through numerous and conflicting sources and unreliable information. The Humanscale materials are not a panacea, of course. More detailed studies dealing with interior space, safety, human strength and movement, displays, vision, reach, and controls should also be consulted. The selectors should be used in a creative way, and models and mock-ups based on the data should be tried out with the intended users.
