Book Description
The version in English of Zualdi's Sacred Ceremonies of Low Mass, by the late Rev. M. O'Callaghan, C.M., has been for years considered the standard worK for making up the Rites and Ceremonies of the Mass by Ecclesiastical Students and Priests alike. The promulgation, however, of the Code of Canon Law, and the appearance of the Typical Edition of the Roman Missal, especially the Additiones et Variationes appended to the Rubricae Generales and the Ritus, have called for a certain number of changes in this New Edition. But my aim has been to make only necessary changes. I verified, with the help of others, all the instructions in the old edition, and kept the same expression of them as heretofore, whenever I could. Numbers of these instructions have now even more authority than they had previously. The august Sacrifice of the Mass comprises in itself all that is most sublime and sacred in our Holy Religion. All the sacrifices of the Old Testament were only shadows of that of the new, which, as St. Leo says, really offers to God what the Jewish sacrifices only promised. The offering should bear some proportion to the person to whom it is made; but since the ancient sacrifices were only weak and needy elements, they could in no way satisfy for man's debts to God and hence another sacrifice was required. The old victims were insufficient, the Levitical priesthood was impotent in the sight of God, therefore it was necessary, as the Fathers of the Council of Trent express it, that by the ordination of God the Father of Mercies, another Priest, according to the order of Melchisedech, our Lord Jesus Christ, should arise, who would consummate and bring to perfection all who were to be sanctified. Although Our Lord fully consummated the sacrifice by offering Himself to God the Father, and by dying on the altar of the Cross for our redemption yet His priesthood was not to expire with His death, but was to continue visible in His Church to the .end of ages, as He Himself promised at His Last Supper when, instituting the. Eucharistic Sacrifice, He gave the same Divine authority to the Apostles, and to their successors. Every Priest can, therefore, say to himself when ascending the altar: I am no longer a mere man of clay, a weak creature-being identified with Jesus Christ throogh the power and the infinite value of the Victim I am about to offer. With what a high degree of virtue; ought such a dignity be accompanied!

Book Description
Disturbed by the direction in which the post Vatican II liturgical reforms have moved, two fictitious representatives of mutually antagonistic movements debate the remedy for "correct" liturgical reform. This unique work presents a debate between a "traditionalist" who argues for a return to the pre-Vatican II liturgy, and a reformist (no liberal himself) who advocates a new liturgical reform more in keeping with what the Council fathers had in mind. They bring to the debate the insights of renowned authorities on the liturgy, including Cardinal Ratzinger, Msgr. Klaus Gamber, Michael Davies, Fr. Brian Harrison and Fr. Aidan Nichols. This book is written for anyone interested in the Church's liturgy, and the controversies surrounding the liturgical renewal. It is both a primer for those who lack the theological and liturgical expertise to articulate their dissatisfaction with the state of the liturgy, and an excellent resource for those specialists who would appreciate having a single volume for consulting salient points from numerous authorities.

Book Description
The ever increasing interest in the Liturgical Traditions of the Church gives rise to the need for adequately trained altar servers and what better way to assist than to resurrect this classic! This famous handbook is an invaluable resource for all altar boys from beginning to advanced. Though written for Instructors, this manual can also be used for home study, schools and sacristies. Dom Matthew Britt begins by offering specific instructions on common ceremonial actions, including how to make the proper bow, how to light the candles, and how to carry the Missal. He also walks the servers step-by-step through Low Mass (with one or two servers), High Mass, Solemn High Masses, Nuptial and Requiem Masses, Vespers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Contains more than 24 diagrams showing the various actions and positions of acolytes, Thurifer, Master of Ceremonies, Sub-Deacon, and Deacon. Includes servers responses for the 1962 Latin Mass. How to Serve is a brief and clear manual from 1934 that is simply the best book of its kind. It will once again become the standard reference for acolytes, handing on to young servers the disciplines necessary for reverent Catholic ceremonies. Every altar boy "should realize that...he is , after the priest, and in the absence of other priests or Sacred Ministers, the closest one in the whole church to our Divine Savior in the Blessed Sacrament. Occupying this very important position in his parish, an Altar Boy's conduct should be exemplary at all times and in all places." - Rev. Joseph W. Kavanagh, author of The Altar Boys Ceremonial
