Book Description
In this classic study, St. John's Revelation is approached as a great and singular theological poem. Austin Farrer shows how the poem arose in an inspired mind, by what processes of divination its author explored the realm of supernatural truth, how he used the images of his Old Testament faith and gave them fresh meaning in the context of his scheme. Here the reader may follow the workings of a late first-century Christian imagination, in which the Scriptures and the stars, the liturgy of the temple and the magic of numbers, the elements of nature and the march of human history are closely interwoven.

Book Description
African orthodoxy today reveals the same powerful faith that was confessed by Athanasius and Augustine seventeen centuries ago. Classic African Christian teaching in the patristic period (100–750 AD) preceded modern colonialism by over a thousand years. Many young African women and men are now reexamining these lost roots. They are hungry for accurate information about their Christian ancestors. Thomas C. Oden asks readers to recapture the resonance of a consensual orthodoxy, the harmony of voices celebrating the apostolic testimony to God’s saving work in Jesus Christ, witnessed to in scripture and understood best by African interpreters of the faith. In ten seminars, Oden invites discerning readers to reclaim and reaffirm Christian faith as it emerges from thoughtful conversations between contemporary and ancient African interpreters of orthodox faith. “This new book by Tom Oden is remarkable and historic. His words challenge the worldwide church to return to the true fountain of living water, Jesus Christ. He specifically encourages us Africans to continue to seek the treasures left to us by our early church fathers and mothers in order to reshape the Christian mind now as they did in the first millennium.” –The Most Rev. Dr. Mouneer Hanna Anis, Archbishop of the Episcopal/Anglican Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa “A thought-provoking book with factual evidences emphasizing the continuity of global orthodoxy that emanated in Africa and has been nurtured by Africans from the time of Mark the evangelist to the present. People yearning to discover the intellectual and classical African Christian roots will find the book very helpful.” –Thomas A. Oduro, President, Good News Theological College & Seminary, Accra, Ghana “While Tom Oden writes about Africans for Africans, The Rebirth of African Orthodoxy: Return to Foundations is also addressed to all Christians everywhere who ask, ‘What is God doing in the world today?’ The author proposes that the clue to what God is doing in the present is to be found in what God has done in the past, for ‘the Holy Spirit has a history.’ Tom directs us to look to Africa, where the ancient African Christian orthodoxy is being reborn in the African church today, making it a witness to the whole church everywhere.” –Timothy W. Whitaker, retired bishop, Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church

Book Description
"Revelation is a pillar of belief in the Judeo-Christian tradition. Historians regularly write that the Enlightenment dethroned it as the basis for knowledge of God and the world, replacing or at least supplementing it with reason. What Benes demonstrates is that in the late eighteenth century religious thinkers across the three main German confessions (Protestantism, Catholicism, and Judaism) rehabilitated the concept in important if untraditional ways. These thinkers were not entirely successful in reconciling reason, revelation, and history. A new generation of philosophers, including Feuerbach and Kierkegaard, attacked the concept again in the nineteenth century. But a secularized concept of revelation persisted and influenced numerous disciplines beyond theology, including history, linguistics, and natural philosophy (e.g. science). The dismantling of propositional revelation bestowed the privileges and agency once reserved for God onto human subjects, relegating religion to cultural practice, not divine truth. In addition to its comprehensive approach, Benes's manuscript stands-out for addressing not just the Protestant majority but also Catholic and Jewish thinking on revelation, highlighting both the common themes and the ways in which their intellectual trajectory differed."--

Book Description
Intriguing and endlessly contentious ideas and images of apocalyptic measure come together in the book of Revelation. It is a rich and hermeneutically complicated Scripture that, unsurprisingly, has no universally accepted interpretation. Reading Revelation compares these four major approaches to Revelation by laying out the different interpretive translations provided by each school of thought in parallel columns.

Book Description
From Genesis to Revelation: A Story You Find Yourself In is a book about the journey of the soul and how it's reflected in the esoteric Bible. The book is written as an allegory by animating characters found in the creation and together serve as our hosts during this earthly sojourn. It’s through the unbiased observations made by these characters that we come to better understand ourselves and the purpose of this incarnation. The quality of our relationship with the creation and with other human’s is solely dependent upon the quality of the relationship that we have with our inner man. Becoming aware of awareness is the beginning of this understanding and is perfected through the process of internal observation. The book recognizes that humanity is stressing the creations integrity and its ability to maintain a proper ecosystem in support of our human experience. In response, the creation determines that something must be done, concluding that acquiring a thorough understanding the nature of man’s inner and collective psyche as the first order of business. In this process of discovery, the creation explores the contrasts between the practices of religion and the pursuits of spirituality, while endeavoring to correlate its findings with the symbolisms found in the Bible. What they discover is a revelatory paradox, as their findings suggest that these human practices and pursuits do not align with the spiritual meaning hidden in these sacred texts. The journey of humanity is a story you find yourself in and the only way forward is for each of us to come into a reconciliation with our dual natures. I hope this book can help in that cause as the answers are found within, from Genesis to Revelation.

Book Description
This volume deals with the varied forms of shame reflected in biblical, theological, psychological and anthropological sources. Although traditional theology and church practice concentrate on providing forgiveness for shameful behavior, recent scholarship has discovered the crucial relevance of social shame evoked by mental status, adversity, slavery, abuse, illness, grief and defeat. Anthropologists, sociologists, and psychologists have discovered that unresolved social shame is related to racial and social prejudice, to bullying, crime, genocide, narcissism, post-traumatic stress and other forms of toxic behavior. Eleven leaders in this research participated in a conference on The Shame Factor, sponsored by St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE in October 2010. Their essays explore the impact and the transformation of shame in a variety of arenas, comprising in this volume a unique and innovative resource for contemporary religion, therapy, ethics, and social analysis.
