Book Description
Excerpt from The Practice in the Several Judicatories: Of the Church of Scotland In former editions of this work, no mention was made of the management of the poor by kirk-sessions, because the practice in parishes was far from being uniform, and the matter was not strictly an ecclesiastical one. It is still less necessary to notice the subject now, when a change has taken place on the law, and parochial boards have been substituted for kirk-sessions in the management of the poor. Whatever may be thought of the change, the former system is completely at an end. Since the publication of the fifth edition of this work, some changes have taken place in both the law and the practice of the Church. These have been marked in their proper places, so as to exhibit what is at present held to be the right course of procedure. In 1838 the Church Law Society published a volume entitled. Styles of Writs and Forms of Procedure in the Courts of Scotland. The same work has been "revised and adapted to the present state of the Law of the Church, by Dr Cook of Haddington," and has reached a third edition. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work.
