Book Description
"Jay's recollection of pool stories exceeds any that I've ever heard. His exactness in recalling events as they actually happened is amazing. There are few as qualified to write about pool action as Jay. He has always been right on the money with everything he has accomplished and this book isn't any different." -World 9-Ball Champion Billy Incardona "I've known Jay since the 60's. Although he loved to compete, he became more respected as a great game maker and money winner who helped out many a pool player when down on their luck." -World All Around Champion Danny Diliberto "Jay is the 'go to' man in pool. He is a living historian and a source for all pool info. As an accomplished player himself, he evolved into every aspect of the sport. He has given sage advice to up-and-coming players as well as champions. Jay is a valued member of the pool community who gets a nod and a smile from all who know him." -Pat Fleming, ACCU-Stats Video Productions

Book Description
"Ranging from pool hustling to pornography, this book analyzes deviant branches of American life, dispels misconceptions about them, and throws new light on sociological theory and method. Each chapter radically dissents from one or more mainstream opinions about deviance. The first chapter examines the alleged causes for the decline of American poolrooms and finds them wanting, traces the rise and fall of poolrooms to historical changes in America's social structure, and cogently dissects the recent poolroom revival. The second chapter, reports a field study of a deviant occupation, pool hustling, describing the hustler's work situation and career from recruitment to retirement. In revealing how pool hustlers, although dedicated wholly to a vocation that merely breaks unenforced gambling laws, frequently supplement their income by means of outright felonies, the author develops a new theory of "crime as moonlighting." The third chapter sharply criticizes our criminology textbooks for avoiding the study of uncaught adult criminals in their natural environments. It demonstrates such research to be both necessary and practical with career felons as well as moonlighters. The author describes field techniques he has used with career felons, offers new findings gleaned by means of these techniques, and answers moral objections to such research. The forth chapter presents the first genuinely empirical study of the beat delinquent sub-culture, in which the author corrects some journalistic views such as that most beats are exhibitionists and some sociological ones such as that "retreatist" drug-users can meet neither legitimate nor criminal success norms. The final chapter, on the sociology of pornography, holds that the courts are wrong to claim that naturalistic erotic art is non-pornographic, and wronger still to claim that hard-core pornography is, in Mr. Justice Brennan's words, "utterly without redeeming social importance."The author's unusual blend of"--Provided by publisher.

Book Description
“If Hemingway had the passion for pool that he had for bullfighting, his hero might have been Eddie Felson” (Time). The novel that inspired the classic film starring Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason, The Hustler tells the story of Fast Eddie Felson, a young pool player who hustles suckers in small towns, looking for stake money so he can reach his goal: a marathon match in Chicago against Minnesota Fats. An exploration of guts, stamina, and character, and of the difference between winners and losers, this tense, gritty tale is “a wonderful hymn to the last true era when men of substance played pool with a vengeance” (Time Out).

Book Description
The movie The Hustler was without doubt the greatest movie ever made about the game of pool and was one of the greatest movies ever made about any subject. It was nominated for multiple Academy Awards. Although Fast Eddie Felson was an entirely fictional person, Minnesota Fats was a real man and was a real pool hustler but was largely unknown outside of the world of pool until the movie came out. His real name was Rudolf Walter Wanderone. His family had come from Switzerland. He never won a major championship but often won money from the best players in the world. He was definitely a money player, winning money when the stakes were high. On these pages "Fats" gives you instructions on the Fundamentals of Pool with photographs showing the proper stance, bridge, stroke and follow through. Fully illustrated instructions for making bank shots, rail shots, straight-ins, and more plus "English" and its use. All game rules including bank pool, one pocket, Kelly, nine ball, bumper pool, and others with referee instructions. Interesting facts on cues, their maintenance and repair plus detailed instructions on re-covering your pool table.
