Book Description
Since the turn of the millennium, the analogue photo book has experienced an international boom, developing into its own art form: a kind of visual literature, somewhere between novel and film. More and more often, photographers are publishing their works in this format rather than only as part of exhibitions. However, the photo book as an art form is hardly known to a wider public. The multiyear project?Welt im Umbruch? (World in Transition), which the Montag Stiftung initiated together with the PhotoBookMuseum, made one attempt to change this. In Rostock, Duisburg, and Kassel, members of the public were able to get to know photobooks as an artistic form of expression and to design photobooks of their own.00This volume not only documents the experience-based knowledge of all participants but also introduces the history of the photobook along with theories and current practices of participative art. It collects contributions on the production and distribution conditions of photobooks from Asia, Europe, and the United States. In addition to the medium?s political and emancipatory potential, topics discussed include the reasons for the analogue photobook's enormous appeal in the digital present.

Book Description
Gain a new perspective on photography in this personally guided introduction to photographic images and what they mean by one of the leading writers and curators of our time On Photographs is destined to become an instant classic of photography writing. Rejecting the conventions of chronology and the heightened status afforded to 'classics' in traditional accounts of the history of the medium, Campany's selection of photographs is an expertly curated and personal one - mixing fine art prints, film stills, documentary photographs, fashion editorials and advertisements. In this playful new take on the history of photography, anonymous photographers stand alongside photography pioneers, 20th-century talents and contemporary practitioners. Each photograph is accompanied by Campany's highly readable commentary. Putting the sacred status of authorship to one side, he strives to guide the reader in their own interpretation and understanding of the image itself. In a visual culture in which we have become accustomed to not looking, Campany helps us see, in what is both an accessible introduction for newcomers and a must-have for photography aficionados.

Weathering Time
Author: NANCY. FLOYD
Publisher: Gost Books
ISBN: 9781910401422
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 257
Book Description
'It's not just the body that changes: Fashions and hairstyles evolve; pets come and go; typewriters, analog clocks, and telephones with cords disappear; and finally, film gives way to digital and the computer replaces the darkroom. While Weathering Time is a personal archive, and I am mining the archive to address issues of the female body, the family snapshot and loss, I am also interested in producing images that suggest some of the experiences of my generation. Indeed, the photographs underscore the cultural, technological, and physical changes that have occurred over the past thirty-five years--from my youth to the dawn of my old age.' Nancy Floyd

Another Kind of Life
Author: Alona Pardo
Publisher: National Geographic Books
ISBN: 3791384279
Category : Photography
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Filled with compelling images from revered photographers of the past and present, this book sheds light on marginalized communities who have traditionally shied away from the camera. At a time when individual rights are being contested and when those on the fringes of society feel deeply threatened, this powerful photographic compilation delivers a message of humanity and inclusiveness that transcends geopolitical and cultural boundaries. Works by critically acclaimed photographers including Bruce Davidson, Paz Errazuriz, Jim Goldberg, Danny Lyon, Mary Ellen Mark, Boris Mikhailov, Daido Moriyama, and Dayanita Singh cast a compassionate, unflinching eye on the worlds inhabited by transsexuals, hookers, hustlers, bikers, junkies, circus performers, gang members, survivalists, petty criminals, and others who live in the shadows, on the streets, and out of the public eye. Grouped by photographer and ranging in genre from portraiture to photojournalism, these images were selected for their authentic and humane perspective, as well as for their artistic brilliance. An important testament to photography's power to both expose injustice and provide affirmation for those outside the norm, this collection bears witness to the ways social attitudes change across time and space, and how visual representation can promote understanding and dialogue.
