Polymer Composites in the Aerospace Industry
Author: P. E. Irving
Publisher: Woodhead Publishing
ISBN: 0081027346
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 690
Book Description
Polymer Composites in the Aerospace Industry, Second Edition, summarizes the latest research and developments on the design, manufacture and performance of composite components for aerospace structures. Sections cover the modeling, structure and behavior of 2D and 3D woven composites, the manufacture processes used for composite materials and components, buckling and compressive strength of laminates and manufacturing defects in composite materials, aspects of composite performance in aerospace structural design, including chapters on modeling stiffness and strength of structural elements, fatigue under uniaxial and multiaxial loads, fracture mechanics, impact strength and fatigue, crashworthiness, design and failure analysis of bolted joints, and much more. This updated edition is an essential reference resource for engineers, scientists and designers working in the development of composite materials in aerospace applications. - Presents detailed discussions on the design, modeling and analysis of conventional and advanced polymer composites used in aerospace applications - Provides an in-depth understanding of the performance parameters of aerospace composites, such as strength, stiffness and fatigue, impact and blast resistance - Includes significant developments that have occurred since 2015 (in production and manufacturing, fatigue modeling, test standards, adhesive bonding and repair and service techniques) - Features a brand new section on design applications, including helicopter components, fixed wing landing gear, aircraft wings and fuselage

Systems of Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations
Author: J.M. Ball
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400971893
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 476
Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of a NATO/London Mathematical Society Advanced Study Institute held in Oxford from 25 July - 7 August 1982. The institute concerned the theory and applications of systems of nonlinear partial differential equations, with emphasis on techniques appropriate to systems of more than one equation. Most of the lecturers and participants were analysts specializing in partial differential equations, but also present were a number of numerical analysts, workers in mechanics, and other applied mathematicians. The organizing committee for the institute was J.M. Ball (Heriot-Watt), T.B. Benjamin (Oxford), J. Carr (Heriot-Watt), C.M. Dafermos (Brown), S. Hildebrandt (Bonn) and J.S. pym (Sheffield) . The programme of the institute consisted of a number of courses of expository lectures, together with special sessions on different topics. It is a pleasure to thank all the lecturers for the care they took in the preparation of their talks, and S.S. Antman, A.J. Chorin, J.K. Hale and J.E. Marsden for the organization of their special sessions. The institute was made possible by financial support from NATO, the London Mathematical Society, the u.S. Army Research Office, the u.S. Army European Research Office, and the u.S. National Science Foundation. The lectures were held in the Mathematical Institute of the University of Oxford, and residential accommodation was provided at Hertford College.

The Influence of Prebuckling Deformations and Stresses on the Buckling of Perfect Cylinders
Author: Manuel Stein
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Buckling (Mechanics)
Languages : en
Pages : 32
Book Description
Large-deflection theory is used to compute buckling loads of simply supported initially perfect cylinders under axial compression, external pressure, and combinations of axial compression and internal or external pressure. Important results are obtained by taking into account prebuckling deformations and stresses induced by edge support. For example, the presence of these deformations and stresses can reduce the axial-compression buckling load of an unpressurized perfect cylinder to 50 percent of the classical value.
