Book Description
In the vibrant and haunting city of New Orleans, an ambitious photographer named Clara stumbles upon an old camera at a flea market, rumored to have belonged to a mysteriously vanished artist. Intrigued, she begins using the camera to capture the essence of the city's iconic locations, only to discover that each photograph reveals shadowy figures lurking just out of sight—figures that grow increasingly vivid and menacing with each click. As Clara delves deeper into the mystery, she becomes entangled in the lives of tormented spirits who seek to express their pain and stories through her lens. Among them are Lucien, a sorrowful bard trapped in time; Elise, a guardian of a forgotten garden; and Victor, a lost musician yearning to be remembered. Each spirit carries a haunting tale of love, loss, and regret, urging Clara to help them find closure. As she embarks on this emotional journey, Clara must confront her own fears and insecurities while unraveling the dark secrets of the city’s past. With the spirits urging her to use her photography as a bridge between the living and the dead, Clara races against time to complete their stories before she becomes just another ghost in their haunting gallery.

The Phantom Table
Author: Ann Banfield
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521034036
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 456
Book Description
Virginia Woolf identified the influence on her work of 'the Cambridge Apostles', the philosophical society which counted G. E. Moore, Bertrand Russell and much of male Bloomsbury among its members, as one more 'capable of description' than 'the influence of my mother'. In this major study of Woolf's relationship to Bloomsbury and the aesthetic and philosophical developments of her time, Ann Banfield subjects that influence to a full treatment. The theory of knowledge Moore and Russell formulated, Banfield argues, profoundly affected Woolf's conception of reality, as it did Roger Fry's theory of Post-Impressionism, one source for Woolf's transformations of philosophical principles into aesthetic ones. The Phantom Table is a magisterial account of Woolf's engagement with this remarkable trinity of thinkers: Moore, Russell, Fry. It revises the epistemology of modernism, reconceiving the relation between realism and formalism to account for Woolf's dual reality of sense impressions and logical forms.

Variation Based Dense 3D Reconstruction
Author: Sven Painer
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3658126981
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 87
Book Description
In his master thesis, Sven Painer develops, implements, and evaluates a method to reconstruct the liver surface from monocular mini-laparoscopic sequences. The principal focus of his research is to create a basis for helping clinicians to write reports with quantitative descriptions of the liver surface. A Structure from Motion approach is performed to do a sparse reconstruction of the liver surface and subsequently this information is used in a variation based dense 3D reconstruction. The algorithms are formulated in a causal way, enabling the implementation to be run in real-time on an adequate hardware platform. The results show a significant performance increase and pave the way to give clinicians a feedback during video capturing to improve the quality of the reconstruction in the near future.

Japanese Cinema Between Frames
Author: Laura Lee
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319663739
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 183
Book Description
This book explores the rich complexity of Japan’s film history by tracing how cinema has been continually reshaped through its dynamic engagement within a shifting media ecology. Focusing on techniques that draw attention to the interval between frames on the filmstrip, something that is generally obscured in narrative film, Lee uncovers a chief mechanism by which, from its earliest period, the medium has capitalized on its materiality to instantiate its contemporaneity. In doing so, cinema has bound itself tightly with adjacent visual forms such as anime and manga to redefine itself across its history of interaction with new media, including television, video, and digital formats. Japanese Cinema Between Frames is a bold examination of Japanese film aesthetics that reframes the nation’s cinema history, illuminating processes that have both contributed to the unique texture of Japanese films and yoked the nation’s cinema to the global sphere of film history.
