Book Description
Matt Hudson is heading for California after completing a cattle drive from Texas. He is cheated out of his money, horse and guns by the Town marshal and deputies of Danville. Penniless, he walks toward California carrying his stock saddle following a river because he needs the water. Near the source of the river he finds the perfect valley hidden in the foothills to the mountains. The valley has everything he needs to survive including several hundred sheep and there is a nearby herd of mustangs. With the help of a young Mexican boy, he takes some sheep to the county seat where the railroad-Irish pay good prices for mutton. Here he meets the county sheriff and his pretty daughter Molly. Molly is already involved with the Town Marshal of Danville against her father's wishes. When Matt takes her to a dance the Marshal is determined to get him. Their enmity increases to the point that the Marshal claims that Matt is a wanted criminal and puts a bounty on his head. Three bounty hunters find his valley and attack it but are defeated by Matt and his Mexican boy. The captured bounty hunters disclose that the Marshal has been involved in the recent bank robbery in Danville. The Marshal goes on the run with his deputy and seeks out the valley, where there is a showdown and Molly finally sees the Marshal for what he is.

Book Description
Magical realism was one of the most significant literary developments in the last century. It has become synonymous with the seductive fictions of writers such as Gabriel García Márquez, Salman Rushdie, Toni Morrison, Ben Okri, Jeanette Winterson and Peter Carey. However, the genre has also become known for its theoretical indeterminacy. In fact, exoticist speculation, inspired by the links between magical realist literature and the world's cultural or political margins, has thrown the category into critical disrepute. This book rescues magical realism from misreadings and misdemeanours, tracing the historical development of the literary genre and analysing an original spectrum of magical realist texts from Latin America, Africa, India, Canada, the US, the UK and Australia. It asks such questions as: How did magical realism come to take over the world? What is the nature of its allure? Also, how does the marginal status of its authors inform the genre? Does magical realism have a political agenda? This book uses postcolonial theory to investigate notions of cultural identity and post-structural theory to examine the narrative strategies of magical realism, presenting a comprehensive historical and theoretical overview of the genre and a politically urgent argument about its subversive potentialities.

Book Description
We all need hope today, especially now with all of the problems and uncertainties affecting us. War, economic and ecological issues seem to be putting the world on the brink. It is my hope that these Poems will shed light on an answer. The natural world and universe seems too beautiful and wonderful to be purposeless and devoid of meaning. I’ve been to many beautiful, natural places, including the dark skies in the Florida Everglades. What I have witnessed is a certain inalienable right of peace, hope and beauty built into the natural world. I hope you enjoy this journey.

Book Description
This book proposes the study of literary texts as a vital component of L2 linguistic and cultural knowledge. The research, conducted with students of Italian in Australia, is situated in the wider L2 context, and compared to studies on students' perceptions of English and French literary texts in countries such as Canada, Italy, Australia, Germany and the Ukraine. The first part of the book takes the debate on the inclusion of literature in language education as a springboard for posing crucial questions about how students, and educators, view literature. The theoretical framework draws from educational, linguistic, philosophical and literary theories, and focuses on the role of awareness in learning and the role of the learner's experience. The second part of the book evaluates an innovative approach to teaching and learning L2 literature, and discusses the application of this to the language classroom. Containing a balance of theoretical and practical concerns, this book will be invaluable reading for researchers of applied linguistics and second language acquisition.
