Book Description
IMAGINATION DRIFT: THE CHALLENGE FOR FREEDOM is the second part of a trilogy. The satiric story continues with Zalador, in his quest to secure a place on the Supreme Council, must fulfil the requirements of a wish. The acceptance as a member of the Council means that the lion is given cosmic freedom; a release from the limits of his stay as an entity on the dry and dusty plains of his former Kingdom. In the first part of the trilogy, IMAGINATION DRIFT: A PRINCE FOR THREE DAYS Zalador’s attempt ends in the death of his wish-partner, Malcolm; but through an appeal he is given a second chance to complete the requirements to enter the Supreme Council. While Zalador has to select a new wish partner; he is given the additional task of assisting a young lion, the Major, in finding a wish-partner to achieve the requirements of the wish. The Major, a lion from the Urban Display Arena (the zoo), is arrogant and constantly reminds Zalador of his contacts on the Supreme Council; that he is sure to be selected; that he is chosen one. To Zalador dismay he has no contacts on the Supreme Council. The difficulty is that there are two lions competing for a single position on Council and the benefits from the galactic freedom. Both are aspiring to achieve a release from the earth-bound gravity and this creates the challenge. Zalador is suspicious of the Major’s intentions but is in the compromised position of assisting his competitor. This results in each picking on the weakness of the other to demoralize the competitor out of contention. The journey takes Zalador and the Major with the wish Partners, Princess and Sta, in and out of Paradise and the visit to a new Homeland. IMAGINATION DRIFT: A CHALLENGE FOR FREEDOM expresses human- people interactions and behaviors through animal perspectives.

The Lion
Author: Craig Packer
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 0691215294
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 376
Book Description
"Lions lead intricate lives. They hunt together, raise cubs together, and defend territories together. But though life at the top of the food chain may mean that lions have little to fear from other species - they can easily dominate every other carnivore in their midst - they still must constantly safeguard against the threat posed by other lions. Each day is dominated by the demands of raising a family while protecting themselves against enemies endowed with the same strengths and skills. Biologist Craig Packer has spent his career studying the African lion, one of the most fascinating animals on earth. In this book, he synthesizes his decades of research in the Serengeti into an up-to-date portrait of the African lion, and reveals how he and his colleagues have come to understand this creature's behavior, ecology, and conservation. Packer opens the book by providing readers with background on lions' territory, daily behavior, lifespan, and physiology. From there he delves more deeply into lion society, illustrating the complexity of lion life from cub rearing and foraging to competition with other lions. In the final chapters, Packer zooms out to summarize what is known about lion ecological abundance and distribution as well as their conservation status. Not surprisingly, lions are increasingly threatened; however, Packer ends his book on a hopeful note, pointing to programs that are successfully protecting lion populations"--

All Is Leaf
Author: John T Price
Publisher: University of Iowa Press
ISBN: 1609388364
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
Drawing inspiration and urgency from the storied Goethe Oak tree at Buchenwald concentration camp—and from the leaf as symbol of all change, growth, and renewal—award-winning essayist John Price explores a multitude of dramatic transformations, in his life and in the fragile world beyond: “the how of the organism—that keeps your humanity alive.” He employs an array of forms and voices, whether penning a break-up letter to America or a literary rock-n-roll road song dedicated to prairie scientists, or giving pregame pep talks to his son’s losing football team. Here, too, are moving portrayals of his father’s last effort as a small-town lawyer to defend the rights of abused women, and his own efforts as a writing teacher to honor the personal stories of his students. From his Iowa backyard to the edge of the Arctic Circle, from the forgotten recesses of the body to the far reaches of the solar system, this book demonstrates the ways imagination and informed compassion can, as Price describes it, expand thousandfold the boundaries of what we might “have naïvely considered an individual self.”
