Book Description
[Siren Everlasting Classic ManLove: Erotic Romance, Alternative, Sci-Fi, BDSM, Public Exhibition, Spanking, Sex Toys MM, HEA] In Bound by Defiance, Alexis Bedlam has been chosen. Selected by the annual lottery as a sacrifice to the alien race that saved mankind from the Great Plague, he’s none too happy to be carted off to be some alien’s snack pack, love slave maybe, but not someone’s dinner. Little does he know that he’s about to come face to face with the master of his dreams. Elia, the twenty-seventh spawn of Prince Kranok, has been ordered to wed. Luckily for him, the annual lottery has provided a being that is rumored to be the perfect first concubine for him. What the rumors didn’t tell him is that his particular human is stubborn, sexy, and determined to make a new path for the both of them in an alien world. As questions about the legitimacy of Elia’s ownership arise, he will have to decide if he will surrender to authority and follow tradition or if defying his past is worth a future with Alexis. In Bound by Duty, Jess Taylor has been selected. Chosen by the annual lottery as a sacrifice to the aliens that saved mankind from the Great Plague, he could care less what happens to him. Little does he know that his first alien master doesn't provide much and has a gambling problem to boot. When the debt gets too high, he's sold to another who might provide all he needs and so much more. Noss, the first spawn of Prince Kranok, is duty bound to take care of his family. Unfortunately for him, no one wants to marry him because of his father's scandal. Noss doesn't expect much when he buys the human, but he gets more than a handful. Passion spirals quickly into something more meaningful, and they'll have to decide if being bound by duty can make them happy in a world where changing the rules might mean the destruction of the house that Noss is trying so hard to keep together. Book Ownership in Stuart England
Author: David Pearson
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0192642723
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 542
Book Description
This volume provides a wide-ranging account of the development and importance of private libraries and book ownership through the seventeenth century, based upon many kinds of evidence, including examination of thousands of books, and a list of over 1,300 known owners from diverse backgrounds. It considers questions of evolution, contents and size, and motives for book ownership, during a century when growing markets for both new and second-hand books meant that books would be found, in varying numbers, in the homes of all kinds of people from the humble to the wealthy. Book ownership by women, and by non-professional households, is explicitly explored. Other topics include the balance of motivation between books for use, or for display; the relationship between libraries and museums; and cultures of collecting. While presenting a wealth of information in this field, conveniently brought together, this volume also advances methodologies for book history, and makes extensive use of material evidence such as bookbindings. It challenges received wisdom around priorities for studying private libraries, and the terminology which is appropriate to use. In addition, the list of owners, detailed in the Appendix, make this book a work of permanent reference, alongside its value in advancing book history.

The Bastiat Collection
Author: Frédéric Bastiat
Publisher: Ludwig von Mises Institute
ISBN: 1933550074
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 1076
Book Description
"Frédéric Bastiat (1801-1850) dedicated himself completely to his two great passions: liberty and economics. He worked tirelessly, even to his last breath, to persuade anyone who would listen that the two ideas are inseparable. This is the main theme of his life and work. This collection-The Bastiat Collection-is the corpus of his writing gathered together for the first time in English. Bastiat's work has often been appreciated for its undeniable rhetorical power. He wrote to be understood-and to change the world. But neither can the reader overlook its theoretical rigor. It is some of the best economics ever written. Even today, Bastiat's work is the antidote for economic illiteracy. Everyone from the novice to the professional economist will benefit from reading it"--back cover.

China's Road to Disaster: Mao, Central Politicians and Provincial Leaders in the Great Leap Forward, 1955-59
Author: Frederick C Teiwes
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1315502801
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 371
Book Description
This text analyzes the dramatic shifts in Chinese Communist Party economic policy during the mid to late 1950s which eventually resulted in 30 to 45 million deaths through starvation as a result of the failed policies of the Great Leap Forward. Teiwes examines both the substance and the process of economic policy-making in that period, explaining how the rational policies of opposing rash advance in 1956-57 gave way to the fanciful policies of the Great Leap, and assessing responsibility for the failure to adjust adequately those policies even as signs of disaster began to reach higher level decision makers. In telling this story, Teiwes focuses on key participants in the process throughout both "rational" and "utopian" phases - Mao, other top leaders, central economic bureaucracies and local party leaders. The analysis rejects both of the existing influential explanations in the field, the long dominant power politics approach focusing on alleged clashes within the top leadership, and David Bachman's recent institutional interpretation of the origins of the Great Leap. Instead, this study presents a detailed picture of an exceptionally Mao-dominated process, where no other actor challenged his position, where the boldest step any actor took was to try and influence his preferences, and where the system in effect became paralyzed while Mao kept changing signals as disaster unfolded.

Spoils of Truce
Author: Reinoud Leenders
Publisher: Cornell University Press
ISBN: 0801465435
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 289
Book Description
In Spoils of Truce, Reinoud Leenders documents the extensive corruption that accompanied the reconstruction of Lebanon after the end of a decade and a half of civil war. With the signing of the Ta’if peace accord in 1989, the rebuilding of the country’s shattered physical infrastructure and the establishment of a functioning state apparatus became critical demands. Despite the urgent needs of its citizens, however, graft was rampant. Leenders describes the extent and nature of this corruption in key sectors of the Lebanese economy and government, including transportation, health care, energy, natural resources, construction, and social assistance programs. Exploring in detail how corruption implicated senior policymakers and high-ranking public servants, Leenders offers a clear-eyed perspective on state institutions in the developing world. He also addresses the overriding role of the Syrian leadership’s interests in Lebanon and in particular its manipulation of the country’s internal differences. His qualitative and disaggregated approach to dissecting the politics of creating and reshaping state institutions complements the more typical quantitative methods used in the study of corruption. More broadly, Spoils of Truce will be uncomfortable reading for those who insist that power-sharing strategies in conflict management and resolution provide some sort of panacea for divided societies hoping to recover from armed conflict.
