Book Description
Excerpt from The Message of the Twelve Prophets These studies are an attempt to make the Minor Prophets a subject for devotional study. They have therefore been arranged in brief daily portions and are printed so that questions can be answered in writing. It is of the first importance that this should be done. The text used in preparing this volume is that of the American Standard Edition of the Revised Version which should be used by students. The questions, oftentimes, will be unintelligible in connection with other texts of the Bible. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Book of the Twelve Prophets, Commonly Called the Minor, Vol. 1 of 2 The Prophets, to whom this and a following volume are dedicated, have, to our loss, been haunted for centuries by a peddling and an ambiguous title. Their Twelve Books are in size smaller than those of the great Three which precede them, and doubtless none of their chapters soar so high as the brilliant summits to which we are swept by Isaiah and the Prophet of the Exile. But in every other respect they are undeserving of the niggardly name of "Minor." Two of them, Amos and Hosea, were the first of all prophecy - rising cliff-like, with a sheer and magnificent originality, to a height and a mass sufficient to set after them the trend and slope of the whole prophetic range. The Twelve together cover the extent of that range, and illustrate the development of prophecy at almost every stage from the eighth century to the fourth. Yet even more than in the case of Isaiah or Jeremiah, the Church has been content to use a passage here and a passage there, leaving the rest of the books to absolute neglect or the almost equal oblivion of routine-reading. Book Description
Although they ministered for more than three centuries during some of Israel’s most tumultuous days, the Minor Prophets remain a mystery to many Christians in the 21st century. Old Testament scholars Richard Alan Fuhr, Jr. and Gary E. Yates believe that the message of the twelve Minor Prophets is relevant for the church today, and they re-introduce these important books of the Bible to contemporary Christians. Ideal for use as a textbook as well as for personal study, The Message of the Twelve surveys the historical background of each prophetic book, the prophet’s message and themes, as well as the book’s place in the biblical canon. The authors also provide in-depth exposition of each book—from Hosea’s metaphor of Israel’s infidelity and Nahum’s warnings of foreign judgments, to Haggai’s postexilic call and Malachi’s vision of future restoration. The Message of the Twelve goes beyond typical biblical surveys to examine the key interpretive issues in each book, including important literary insights from the Hebrew text. Drawing on the prophets’ proclamations to ancient Israel and Judah, the authors emphasize that the church today must heed the call to reject apathy and return to a vibrant relationship with the living God.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Twelve Prophets: A Version in the Various Poetical Measures of the Original Writings Every one who really knows these old texts is well aware that we cannot be entirely certain at every point what the old original writers themselves did write. It is only the tyro and the dilettante that think and say they can be certain on such matters. Consequently there are a great many invisible marks of hesitation dotted about on the pages of this little book.
